Hiya Jupiler ... welcome to the forums
Headlights ... if you dont mind spending a grand or so then the LED headlights are just about THE brightest/clearest light you can get. Small fortune yes, but you'll be blown away by their performance. Have a word with Tim at mobilecentre [site sponsor on here] For a more sensible price. replace the headlights with free form units available from Paddocks/craddocks/ MM etc, and buy performance Xenon bulbs. Nowhere near as good as the LED option, but about £60 all in gets you a noticeable increase in performance. Oh and yes, Defender headlights take an H4 bulb. Clutch ... Hmmmm, how long is a piece of string?? There was a service bulletin about clutch issues, but as yours is out of warranty its unlikely you'll get anywhere with the line of enquiry. A fair few say goodbye in the 60 - 80 thou range, some much earlier. A lot depends on style of driving, vehicle use etc .... no definative answer im afraid HTH Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

Hi Dave-H
Thanks for your advise. I will go for the H4 Xenon bulbs as it sounds a lot cheaper, plus If it did go for the LED headlights my better half would go for a another puppy and I would end up in the Shed. With regards to the Clutch, I learn't from a long time ago to extend the warranty. I had an Isuzu Trooper and the engine blew up just after the warranty. Luckily, thanks to my local garage making inquiries, It should have had a recall so they had to replace the engine and Turbo etc which caused the problem. From then I always get extended warranties. Can you let me know a little bit more on the service bulletin ? At least its a fighting chance. Thanks again for your help. Cheers Jupiler |

there's a few threads on headlights on the forum, do a search...
Land Rover headlight switches are made from cheese and are very delicate, don't be tempted to put 100watt bulbs in to replace the standard 55/60s because your switch will melt and you won't have any headlights. depending on how handy you are, you could pop a relay into the circuit and this will really help. I have PIAA super white ultra blah blah bulbs .. have a look on the PIAA web site, there's a few to choose from, but they are all about £60 a pair. HID/Xenon replacement kits are widely available but you'll fail your MOT because they are not legal in the UK and probably many parts of europe. let us know how you get on Last edited by bpman on 10th Jun 2012 2:01pm. I opted for a headlight upgrade to ARB IPF 100w bulbs, IPF lamps and IPF loom ( available from Devon )
A little more than simply swapping bulbs ( about £200 ) but much brighter and much cheaper than the LED options. My landy is the one behind. Jupiler, as to light upgrade for your H4's.... Land Rover are offering now a so called Xenon bulb upgrade for the Defender. These are not really Xenon bulbs, but normal filament H4's filled with Xenon gas. Replacing your existing standard H4's by those upgraded ones offered by Land Rover will give already a very distinctive improvement over standard H4's, and very importantly, will keep you fully legal.
I had these higher output H4's installed by my dealer, and the result is very good. Much brighter, very white light, but not blue-ish as some of those upgraded bulbs are which is a disaster I think. These offered by LR are of a very natural white light. Land Rover part number is VPLDV0061. Price is a few tenners. You can see it on the Land Rover UK website, go to Defender accessories, click "exterior protection and lighting" and you will find it. I think this is the correct link to that website. http://www.landrover.com/gb/en/lr/defender/accessories/ Rgds, eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |
