I second that. When you say left hand side.... do you mean left hand side as you look at it from the front or from the drivers position? Only 'Oil spray' I have come across with this engine is the old vacuum pump problem: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic585.ht...accum+pump Oil sprays out of the seal on the right hand side of the engine (as you look from the front of the vehicle). If you're talking left hand side as sitting inside the vehicle then the only stainless steel pipe I can remember is the EGR pipe. This has the smaller transfer pipe entering the side of it and has the MAP sensor located on the top of it. Is it this one? |

Is this what you are talking about:
Click image to enlarge If so, the S/S pipe is the inlet so shouldn't be spraying anything, but the pump on the left of the picture is the vacuum pump which causes problems...... It does spray EVERYWHERE!! *EDIT*.... If it is coming from that inlet pipe, it means the turbo has more than likely blown its seals, which means you will need a new turbo. All the pipes and intercooler will need cleaning out and all leaks (like the one at the flange joint) will need inspecting and repaired. If it is the vacuum pump- it is about £100 for the pump and seal and you can repair it yourself in about 30 mins to an hour. Should be a normal if you have the inlet screws (form SS pipe to the plastic manifold) looses or the o-ring seal damaged.
The inlet manifold is normally "wet" of oil and it camping from the oil vapor closed circuit...... Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition IID Pro MV License |

I agree with that.... But for it be be 'normal' it would take a very long time to notice it. We are talking about a max of about 500ml over about 20,000 miles. By the sound of things.... or my definition of 'spraying' is you can see oil not only on the joint but also on items around it?....... Picture would make it sooooo much easier, lol. Glyn |

In January 2010 I took delivery of a new defender 110 SVX at full price(since found out built in 2008) and after just 9233 kms the brake vacuum pump burst spraying oil all over engine bay and reducing braking efficiency,it had had the first two services with the next one due at 24000kms or 6 months,I have since found out that the vehicle when sold to Me had a faulty brake vacuum pump and Land Rover had sent out Four bulletins directing dealers to replace the pump when requested,I was very surprised when I was told that they would not repair free of charge as I had missed my next service,I admitted to missing the service but as it was a safety issue with only 9000 kms on the clock AND i had bought a Disco 3 HSE and a Disco 4 HSE from them maybe they would do it as a "goodwill" gesture, with a straight face they said NO! Am I unreasonable

I do not think you are being unreasonable, as the brake vacuum pump has nothing to do with the scheduled servicing. This was (is?) a known issue and the fact that Land Rover issued four bulletins about it speaks for itself. Either try the Land Rover customer services route or phone another dealer and ask if they will do it as it was not done when it should have been done. It is a bit short sighted of the dealer not to accomodate you considering all of the business you have given them.
People here have changed this themselves so if you want to go down that route there will be no shortage of advice - or skint knuckles! Good luck. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |
