fuel pressure regs leak often. and can bypass so fuel pressure will be down...loss of power.
wastegate valve can be adjusted manually...they do stick open and shut...take it off and clean it up. thats burning oil...check the breathers clear...crank case pressure can blow oil out. |

Fuel pressure regulators, replace as a complete unit. Buy genuine parts only!
The boost modulator on the Disco is pretty cheap to replace, but rather than do that, just pipe it up as a Defender, with a single hose from the main turbo to intercooler feed pipe, direct to the wastegate actuator. Regarding the breather, take off the oil filler cap and start the engine. If there's a problem, You'll see fumes puffing out of the hole, usually in sync with a particular cylinder that would be down on compression. Normally there should be nothing visible, but maybe a very faint haze on high milers. |

fuel regulator, as above buy genuine and check VIN and they changed the design of them, they are all interchangeable but the reusable gasket wont fit between variants! so get a new one of those too.
quick and simple job to do. Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

if the rings are badly worn (FOD?) then yes performance will be down as your loosing compression.
so its down on performance? 50mph plus area? what age is the td5 and mileage? Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

It's a 1999 189k although I'm yet to check the breathing when I go to the workshop ?
I had the breather of yesterday and there was white steam type coming out but that was after being out on a 40 mile round trip with a trailer and disco 1 on the back so would think you could expect that ? Yes it does seem a little down in hat area but drives pretty finest 70mph Steve 2015 2.2 tdci hardtop xs 3.2 conversion DONE 238bhp and 707nm torque and thats just the start ;-P hybrid turbo in build -done ready to fit ashcroft atb in transfer box 6 speed auto in build |

Hi Steve,
I doubt it is your rings, I would consider doing a check on all known common faults first. MAF sensor, MAP sensor, Fuel filter, Injector seals, Injector loom. Check your fuel pressure, Check your wastegate is not stuck or sticky. Check your oil for fuel in it (has the level risen?) I just put a non genuine MAF sensor on mine and its going well now as mine was pretty slow. And the Nanocom figures suggested there was not a problem with it 50 ish at idle and 600 max. If you have excessive blowby I would think the engine would be leaking oil like a sieve as the blowby pipe would not allow all the pressure to escape. Steve |

Cheers guys I'm going over the shop tomorrow night so I will have a look
I've got a fuel filter I recon the waste gate control valve is fluffed Will order a loom part and from the sound coming from the pressure regulator I think that could do with changing as you can hear a hissing sound So I will have a look Steve 2015 2.2 tdci hardtop xs 3.2 conversion DONE 238bhp and 707nm torque and thats just the start ;-P hybrid turbo in build -done ready to fit ashcroft atb in transfer box 6 speed auto in build |
