I've played with plenty hydro systems over the past few years, both competition spec and industrial/military applications.

Your selection of brand is really down to what your application is (as well as price and personal preference of course). Have a look a Red Winches, Milemarker, Goodwinch (David Bowyer) and Saley winches.

In terms of how you drive it, you could indeed use a PTO system (in which case why not look at a PTO driven winch like the Superwinch H14 instead?) or you could use a belt or prop-driven hydro pump. Your particular engine setup will dictate how you mount the pump but the presence AC should not cause an issue.

If you need anything more, please fire away!

Email Peter at First Four and see what he suggests. He has a Red on the front of his Puma.

I'm not overly enamoured by the red winches to be honest. Very expensive for what they are. For industrial type applications, the goodwinch and milemarker offerings are much better value for money and for competition stuff there's no beating Saley's product without going down the custom build route....

Just my two pence worth.
