Steering box - In the nick of time
With less than 30 days warranty remaining on my 2009 110 I discovered a leak of oil from the bottom of the steering box. Without delay it was off to Hunters in Chester. As ever no quibbles, booked in Monday for a new steering box to be fitted. Which is fine but it does disappoint me that after just 16,000 miles the steering box has failed Sad

Any other experiences? http://www.roadracingsupporters.com

my power steering failed on my td5 within 24,000 miles from new (2 years old) and was replaced under warranty.

Steering pumps on Defenders have been a weak point since er, they were first introduced. My old 110 (1986 vintage) used to intermittently dispense power steering fluid onto the tarmac.

The seals go, but it's such a Censored to replace them that often a recon box is a better solution - mainly cos the seals will just go again in 6 months' time.

Pretty sure the design is the same/very similar in the new ones (certainly Td5s) as it was in 1986?

Wow, a V8 from 1993 to 2001 (only got rid of it ’cos the missus rolled it), a TD5 from 2001 to 2011, now a 2.4 TDCi.

More half-shafts than I care to remember, but nay a problem with the steering. Or did I simply not notice?
