Suspension Query
Hello All, I have started to replace springs and shocks all round on my 2002 90, it is all standard part from Terrafirma shocks and tubular turret's. I have fitted the first set today all has gone well, but my question is how much should I tight'en the new shocks? is their a recommended torque? I have them bolted up so the first thread is visible on the top and just less on the bottom, as it seemed to be getting tight! did not want to over do it.
Many Thanks

Officially:
Rear upper 85Nm
Rear lower 28Nm

Front - When tightening the nuts on both the upper and lower fixings, ensure that at least two threads are visible on the section of the bolt that extends beyond the nut. Rolling Eyes

Unofficially:
Tight is tight; too tight is broken... Wink

Sorry don't fully understand your post, if you are talking about the top of the rear dampers, then these should be done up nice and tight. But if you are talking about the top of the front dampers (or bottom of front or rear) you should only tighten these enough to start to compress the rubber bushes, over tightening will lead to the bush splitting and going missing.

Andy

Reading again you mention "tubular turret's", so you are talking front?

what he said ^^^^^^

dont over tighten them.

you also compress the rubber and then loose any give in it which reduces the flex and increases wear on articulation. Cheers

Thanks all for reply, most helpful, you have probably guessed it was the front shocks at the moment but this question was for the rear as well, which I will be tackling later in the week. I have noticed the Terrafirma rubber bushes seems larger than standard but this could be purely down to well worn old bushes. I have been keeping close eye on new rubber bushes as I tightened making sure they are not commpresed to much.

they are wider than std regardless of wear/compression of the old ones. Cheers
