BEFORE:
During: AND AFTER Nothing like three coats of POR-15. It is a bit glossy with the lighting and I don't think it will be quite that shiny outside (or will stay this clean....) I am going to give it a day to harden then have them mounted on Wed. I will post another shot with finally the correct tyre size. T_ Series II in pieces 1984 Defender 110 (3.5l V8 now 300TDI) |

It looks so much better with the new tires (215->235s) and the rims painted

Sorry Timo, but those rims should be limestone, IHMO.
Changing the subject, that's one hell of a tow bar you've got there. What do you tow with it? Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought!" - Princess Leia |

Darren
The original factory rims were cream outer and brown inner. I have a Series II in the garage that I am keeping "original" as possible but this just looks better without the almost matching rusted wheels. As for towing it came with the hitch when I got it. I have used it last year for skiding logs up at our ski club and also have pulled this a couple of times. Its our 18" Foxcub that sits under a tarp at the office and never gets in the water. So after a few years of issues here and there (some sorted by electric ignition) and some just from driving in -20c . Last fall I found that I have blown the head gasket. No too surprised on a 25 year old engine. I first looked at getting it rebuild, then looked at a used V8, then found a nice fella with a few 300TDi and associated tranny and bits to get me going. I sold off some household items then had it loaded into my truck from work with this nice little piece of machinery

Got the engine home and made a stand to keep it on while I cleaned it up

Changed the "spigot bushing", pulled it out by filling it with grease and bashing in an old socket to push the bush out

Had to change the tranny gear shift lever as it was from a disco and needed the quadrant adapter
Pointy bit Click image to enlarge Removed Click image to enlarge Adapter installed - then re-installed with locktite Click image to enlarge Looking good! I did some soda blasting on the tranny and engine but it made a hell of a mess. Works pretty well. next time outside!!! Seatbox, carpet, mats, tunnel, everything out. It is so much easier to remove things than to install

The tranny came out not too bad once I took the frame mounts off
Click image to enlarge I just lowered it down onto the ground then pulled it out from under the truck. I had to jack the frame up about 1" for it to fit. Good thing I never had it lowered !!! Click image to enlarge Seems easy when writing, took about 10 hours of work this weekend.... Click image to enlarge Some things were really easy then some bolts (propshaft) took 15-20 min to get 1 bolt out. Air tools helped greatly. The only help I had was removing the seatbox. I had my little guy turn the screwdriver when I held the bolts underneath. I also forgot the remove the speedo cable and had to stop mid tranny removal to unscew that, also missed one breather pipe from tranny to engine. Initially I thought I could pull the engine and tranny out complete but it wouldn't go. I think if I had removed the tranny mount first it might have happened but it all worked out pretty well. What a weekend. I am packed full of family commitments this upcoming weekend but hope to clean things up in the next two weeks and start the install after that.
