Thanks for that, was really looking for a simple tone indicator rather than having a 7" monitor on show or having to hide it every time.I will look at knocking something up linked to the reverse gear which looks like the most sensible way to progress Thought there might have been something around already

There are a few recommendations on here somewhere, but from what I gather there are some adhesive ones which won't require any drilling. Some of the inset ones say not suitable for steel bumpers for some reason, so this might be a better option. Danielle Gardel has a set fitted on his wagon so there are also pictures somewhere.
Dolphin parking sensors are the ones http://www.parkingsensors.co.uk/adhesive_p...udio_2.asp There is a 2 pc set and a 4pc set, with or without a a display, priced from £29.99 so it looks like a reasonable way of getting a simple backup sensor. If I come across the other thread I'll add to this post. I fitted these
http://www.parkingsensors.co.uk/adhesive_p...udio_2.asp Very simple - just spliced the power into the reversing light positive feed. The buzzer sounds about as cheap as you can get but it's quite funny really - nicely in keeping with the rest of the Defender trim. I only used 2 but you can get 4 for better detection of lamp posts and bollards. If you have bumperettes or a swing away carrier, make sure you test where you're mounting them before sticking them on so they can't "see" your accessories. Rear bumperettes are good for reducing damage to your vehicle and/or doing damage to object which has hit your vehicle/been hit by your vehicle.
Reversing sensors are about 10/12 mm diameter which are a snug fit into a tube. The tube can be attached by a screw to the underside of good rear bumperettes and the sensor is at the outermost face of the bumperettes. No problem with false signals from bumperettes or spare wheel. Brendan |

I have dolphin ones on my truck, I mounted them away from the metal parts on my NAS step using black plastic spacers, works a treat.

Just make sure if you fit them, that you don't put them directly behind where the rear foldaway step goes when you fold it up - unlike the previous owner of who fitted some to my 110. Just means you can't fold up that step!!
It took me a worryingly long time to work out why it was constantly buzzing when I was reversing... 
Still working out the distance to angriness of buzzing ratio, but I have 4 and a camera and I so far haven't hit anything! |
