Defender 90 drowned
I recently had the misfortune of drowning my Defender.

The vehicle remained in the water for about 45 mins, while I waited for and attached the recovery vehicle.

The level of the water was up to the steering wheel on the right, and about at seat height on the left as the car was on a slope.

I did not try and start it after the engine ingested water, and the battery was disconnected soon after the vehicle went into the water.

What do you think has been damaged, and what are the chances of me seeing my vehicle on the road again?[/img]

Sorry to hear your bad news, how did it happen? was it sea water or fresh water if it was sea water i wouldn`t want it back.

You should be OK.
I take it you didn't have a snorkel but you stopped the engine before it took a lungful.

So long as it didn't ingest a whole load of water into the engine, the most you'll have done is soak the fuse box under the driver's seat. That'll dry out (although check for silt left behind). If there's loads of mud and stuff left behind, it might be worth giving it a wash again with fresh water.

Your ECU should be pretty well sealed and it might not even have been submerged (splashed, certainly, but not drowned). I'd be interested to see how much water got into the seat boxes and what it did to the battery but that's replaceable.

Worth checking the fuel filter as well - with a submerged breather and filler cap you may have got some water into the tank.

As I say. Wash out and silt, let it dry out, sort out the battery, check the fuel and then you should be OK. Might have a damp bottom for a couple of weeks Wink One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

It's an 07 Puma. Spoke to LR on Friday, and their opinion is that it's a write-off, but we'll see.

I doubt that, i agree with the others.

Ive seen TD5's and 300's in water and stop due to water stopping them and being returned with little more than a fluid flush and general clean Mike

You might be lucky but it is also possible that the ecu's died. I know some td5's with having to replace the Ecu's but after that it should be fine.
300 tdi can swim no problem, at least the version without ecu's. Roel

You'll find that ins company's will write it off for flood damage. They may fix the obvious problems but won't like to give it back to you as other problems will manifest themselves at a later date all due to the flooding. Unless you get it stripped of all electrical parts and rewired, and then every mech part stripped cleaned and reassembled. Which would then make an uneconomical repair, so write off is the only option. 110 D250 SE HT

Just had confirmation: it's a write-off.

R525 000 (39 000 pounds) worth of damage, excluding labour to repair. With the Puma, and the amount of electronics and associated wiring looms, water damage of any kind generally leads to the vehicle being written off.

No doubt it could be repaired, but as the dealership said, it would take a week and the replacement of engine ECU and all looms just to get the engine started.

Depending on what they're selling it for, go for it.

It'll be worth quite a bit as parts. You could even pick up a Td5 engine and loom pretty cheaply and get a non LR mechanic to put it all together. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

Just saw your little 90 being towed through the N1 city dealer on Friday afternoon. Shocked
Dealer said water was roof height - must have been exagerating but did not look too pretty.
Hope you get your winch back Puma 110 - gone

Winch and all other accessories were insured. While I assume that the winch would work after stripping and rebuilding, I did not want to take the risk, so left it on the vehicle. I managed to strip most of the accessories that I wanted, with no help from Land Rover.

I left the spots, winch, bullbar, EMS wiring loom and senders, radio, bonnet protection and one or two other things, and removed the OME springs, Bilstein shocks, dislocation cones, rocksliders, roofrack, bash plate, diff protectors, hilift, compressor, dual battery system, CB radio, recovery points and one or two other things.

All of the above shall be going on to the replacement vehicle, a '99 Defender 90 2.8i, which will hopefully be arriving shortly.

Is that the Isuzu engine Andrew? 2.4 90 XS
