Eberspacher D2 Heater
Hello All,

Staring at ebay the other day and I was wondering about using an Eberspacher D2 heater as a safe way to heat my roof tent.

I believe someone did something similar, but that was a permanent installation in a much modified Sankey trailer. Has anyone one built one of these heaters up into a portable unit?

I was thinking about a small fuel tank (3 litres?) combined with the heater, fuel pump, air inlet and exhaust all within the unit. Clearly the air intake for the heater would need to be routed well away from the exhaust. Power would be provided via a small andersion connector. Any suggestions ?

How hot do these things get in use? (i.e. would the heater next to the small fuel tank not be a good idea! Shocked )

Many thanks,

my mate has his eberspacher mounted to the rooflining of his 130 crew cab and then just runs a piece of ducting from the outlet through an open window and up to the rooftent at night, works a treat.

Hi,

I fitted mine inside my cubby box, all electrics are contained inside it so it can be removed easily but not conveniently. I made a 3 way manifold at the rear which distributes the warm air. Pipes go out side windows into the roof tent.

As said it does get hot 2kw hot, but the body itself is not. Worked well in the cubby, I was mindful of it overheating in there.

Take a look here, sorry you may need to join to view pictures.

I thought about this too - my thought is to use a simple 12V fan, some flexible 4" ducting (like a tumble dryer pipe), a bespoke plate to put the pipe/fan onto a half open rear window - and then just pipe it into side window on the roof tent

Keeps all the nasty hot things and exhaust etc away from the tent - and you have a nice warm truck too
