As far as I'm aware, BMW have never built a 5 cylinder engine of any kind.
Which is why the Td5 survived BMW ownership, it fitted between the BMW engines fitted to the Freelander 1 (4 cyl) and P38 (6 cyl). ![]() ![]() |

Found this on Puma http://www.lr-mad.co.uk/en/puma-duratorq Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

This seems quite common. We were looking a a smart TD5 in Chepstow, Home Base, (we had my old Fourtrak), and the owner insisted it was fitted with the BMW 5cylinder engine , brilliant engine said he, and went on to state why it was so better than the Land Rover engined version. Numerous people have asked about our truck, and asked is that the one with the BMW engine. |

IMHO the most reliable engine ever fitted to the Defender. This was the same unit that was in the BMW 328i & 528i, IOW, bulletproof ![]() They are very sought-after here in SA, and fetch a high price. Fuel consumption is quite high, IIRC around 16l/100km, but it sounds sweet and goes like the clappers. One of the landy indies in Johannesburg even bolted on a supercharger for one of their mad customers - gave the GTi boys a big scare at the traffic lights ![]() 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged ![]() ![]() Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |
