I hate quoting the Mail, but thought it an article of interest. Lot of horse riding round here and I'm always respectful (as I bet most people are, but this guys actions do make you wonder. Still, justice worked in this case.

@Kona - it doesn't say what his nationality is, it's pretty difficult to deport someone if they are born a UK citizen? @mick - why does his name say it. If someone had written something about 4x4 drivers, you would be up in arms about it. For info, some years ago my sister rides a horse and on a green lane was faced down by two land rovers. They really had a go at her and despite the fact horses don't have reverse, made her go back so they could get past. In the process the horse got cut on barb wire. She was livid and properly pi**ed off at all off roaders. Fortunately I managed to convince her that they were the minority, not the majority. Jeez, I can't believe I'm having to defend the very f**kwit I wanted to slag off - but just for his DRIVING. Not for where he comes from, or his name. |

Only a figure of speech really. But then again do you know he's a UK citizen or not? Born here or not that behaviour is completely wrong be they foreign or not. Perhaps whilst he's on foot he'd like someone to drive into him? It's only the reverse of what he did to the horse and rider.  |

I am glad that you are respectful of horses but it is my experience that a hell of a lot of people aren't. I have had verbal abuse for leading a pony with a very young rider on with me between it and the traffic. I have been passed so close that it was no effort to whack the roof with my crop. I had a horse that was rock solid in traffic but could be induced to play up and put the fear of god in people passing too close. Sometimes it is safest to ride two abreast especially if there is a young/nexperienced horse, but I have been passed by cars (on wide roads) who think it it is ok to give a blast on the horn. What amazes me is that car drivers actually mess with horses, I think they can't imagine just how much mess a horse could make of a car if it landed on the bonnet. I always had insurance for me and my horse but it's not compulsory. And to mick I say I know where you are coming from as I drive the same roads but we can't tar everyone with the same brush unless they have private hire plates on (my personal prejudice)

Its disgusting how people can act, I have horses of my own and never take them out on main roads due to this reason. My horses are stabled at an equestrian facility. What really bothers me is we can call these people ignorant but when other horse owners or people driving inside the premises of the club have no regard for you or your horses safety. Iv'e encountered people parked on the side who'll drive off with wheels spinning and tires screeching as soon as you're passing their car. I had a b*stard nearly run me over while i was walking he saw me walking towards my car didn't slow down slammed the brakes at the last minute and stopped less than a meter from me. Just the other day someone was speeding down a "footpath" from behind a horsefeed store onto the road. if any person or animal were walking by and took a step past the building they would have been run over. and i'm suspecting its the same idiot that nearly ran me over as it's the same make and color of vehicle but too dark and vehicle too fast to see numberplate but security footage is being looked over so plates will show up.

We don't know his country of origin, that's the point. So why jump to the conclusion that he could be deported? And how can that be a just a figure of speech? I'm not defending his actions. The reason I posted it is because he's an idiot, and a bully in a van. And he got what was coming to him. @ mick - I was born and grew up in Manchester for 40 years. I have only lived in Devon for the past 6. |

I have horses and despite making a point of always being courteous and careful when out on the public highway it is astounding the amount of impatient, intolerant and downright dangerous people there are on the roads - not only car and commercial vehicle drivers but cyclists, dog walkers, hikers, and yes a few fellow equine owners too.
Care, courtesy and respect for all road users should be the norm but sadly a minority are only out for number one, there again this is far from anything new. Steve. I agree with project Blue. Having been to university and lived with a diverse array of nationalities it is unfair to blame due to race or make comment because the convicted is of a certain nationality.
