Bonnet mounted spare?
I know there has been chat on here before about doing this mod, but I seem to remember it might have been a Td5 thing.

Has anyone mounted a spare on the bonnet of their Puma? I know it would mean that the bonnet will need some extra plates on the underside as well as all the kit.

Aesthetically I think it's good, but also I'm thinking about saving the hinges on the back door without the need for fitting a swing away wheel carrier.

Mind you the bulge in the Puma bonnet might mean that the spare sits quite high and therefore adversely affects visibility.

Any thoughts? Any pics would be even better!

Thumbs Up

Seb,I think you'll find it's now illegal to bonnet mount the spare. 2.4 90 XS

Even as a retro mod, Grockle?

There's a '55 plate Td5 on sale at an independent with one one.

Perhaps a swing away is the only answer after all.

I'm sure I read it is something to do with the weight of the wheel in the event of an accident. 2.4 90 XS

what you need is one of Sonic's swing away carriers which will, hopefully, be in production soon !

Have a look at the thread I started in the mods section, it is about 5 or 6 from the top.

I wouldnt have said its legal (ive not heard anything)

But on the puma bonnet i would wonder why - the buldge would make it either stupidly positioned and positioned so it would impact view or angled funny and probably impact new.

The raised section was to accomodate the engine, so you may find even less room than the TD5. Mike

Yes, i've had my eyes on one of those ever since the idea of it was first posted on here. I'm keen on the idea of not drilling even more holes in the body of the 110 and Sonic's solution seems perfect.

Any news on production / price Sonic? More pics of the finished article in action?

Thumbs Up

All

I've seen this before in Germany. There are apparently some who offer this (also for Puma with A/C)

It's not cheep, though. I think around 1'500 Euro as a lot of work needs to be done to re-locate the A/C compressor. Without AC some 900 Euro

Can post some pictures but need first to find out how.

Regards
George
