Mine does that but it's more of a cloud. Don't know what causes it, would be interested to know.

Un-burnt fuel = injectors may need servicing Smile Good things come to the wild and free

Hi Musketeer, I thought leeking fuel would produce black smoke ?

It depends. Although blue smoke is often associated with oil leakage/problems when it is just on start up rather than all the time/gear changes especialy then it is normally some unburnt fuel left in the exhaust system or an injector problem.

Generally;

Blue = Fuel or Oil
Black = Oil
White = Water.

I believe a bit of smoke is normal. I've noticed the colder the weather the greater the volume of smoke. If its above 10 deg outside there's none. Maybe its the ECU dictating things based on temp. I have also seen this in 2 other Pumas and as mine seems to burn no oil whatsoever between changes I don't think its anything to be concerned about

Maybe on a cold day it's worth doing the glow plugs twice. When I first got mine it used to knock like a Dutch girl in a basement. An ecu update sorted that. The blue smoke seems to have got worse and apart from yesterday the weather is getting warmer. Maybe there's another update.

Sam, think you have that wrong, on a Diesel engine it should be

Blue = Oil
Black = Fuel
White = Water Richard

Either a 90, 110 or 130.

Here's a link to a video of my defender starting from cold with the glow plugs used twice clearly showing the blue cloud of smoke.
