Very true. SWMBO booked us in at the Charmouth CC site for Easter last November as soon as we'd ordered the caravan John http://www.hampshire4x4response.co.uk 2011 Tdci 110 CSW XS |

Was their two years ago, poured with rain, the bloke took us onto a pitch that ripped our pipes off the rear underside and we sold the van soon after We'll have another one day! Wife and I were brought up in Lyme I'm still a CC member and see in the magazine they have finally changed the rules about people blanket booking everything as soon as they can and not bother to turn up half the time leaving empty spaces that could have been filled Not severe enough penalties still i think |

Yeh, they have introduced a kind of penalty system for folk who dont turn up. Think you now need to give 72 hrs notice of cancellation. Mind you, I think they allow you to fall foul 2 or 3 thimes and then all they do is put a temporary freeze on you being able to make another booking. Not the strictest of rules.
But we benefitted from the new rules this week, our favourite local CC site in Clumber is always booked up, but we managed to get a cancellation for this weekend , but then my Defender broke down so I had to cancel . So I have probably broken the new rules now |

We're off to Sixpenny Handley with the RRR this Easter.
Site booked last Easter. We've got our own field with Hook-ups. |

We're off to a CC site in Dorset tomorrow. Towing with the Freelander rather than the Defender though Darren

Anyone had any experience of the Eriba caravans?
They look nicely made and good reports, although quite pricey compared with other makes - I'm assuming there is a reason for this which is what I'm trying to discover at the moment. (still a fair bit cheaper than the european spec airstream at £30k staring price plus postage from USA ) Mrs H is making noises about wanting a bit more comfort than that on offer with the tent, but she doesn't want anything too massive as there are only the two of us and dog. They look like they are not a lot higher than the 110 and will fit under our planned carport, I'm guessing from this that they'll tow nicely. Any experiences? Never used an Eriba but I've sat in one at the shows. They are much loved with a bit of a cult following and viewed as a 'premium' brand, key point is the low height for towing and storing (ie in a garage). The roof 'pops' up on site to give full headroom and build quality seems good. John

After all the weather this year and cajoling from Mrs H, we have just ordered a Bailey Olympus caravan to use on our trips instead of the oztent
So looks like we will be leaving (in the main) the 'expedition' style of camping with all its rufty tufty accessories and entering the more comfy style of fixed mattress, shower and cooking in the dry! I'm in two minds whether this is a good idea to be honest, but time will tell (I'm still keeping the oztent etc for now as a fallback position but hopefully we won't look back and it'll all be good fun. Mrs H has already started a list of things she thinks we 'need' so that'll be fun. So if Billing does actually go ahead we might be there in a bit more comfort (assuming time can be taken off work of course) Shame the Bailey isn't a nice shade of orkney grey to match the 110 but I guess a few metres of vinyl wrap would sort that out DJ 1989 200tdi 90 csw 2011 110 usw Orkney grey Buy British 🇬🇧 Defender Clothing Designs available at http://www.rangesports.com/acatalog/Defender-Stuff.html |

No reason why you can't enjoy both. We're taking our Bailey Pegasus to Devon at the end of next week and then the Oztent to the Wilderness Gathering in Wiltshire in mid-August Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? Good point, that was sort of what I had in mind really, I see you can connect an oztent to a caravan with an adaptor so maybe the best of both worlds (turn the telly round luv, I can't quite see it from out here!)
Looking forward to it for a bit of a change really. Shame we won't be able to go to Billing in it! DJ 1989 200tdi 90 csw 2011 110 usw Orkney grey Buy British 🇬🇧 Defender Clothing Designs available at http://www.rangesports.com/acatalog/Defender-Stuff.html |
