Doesnt matter how basic it is mate, I reckon they will become iconic caravans in the future. A neighbour of mine has one parked on his drive, I always have a good look at it each time I walk past.

Yay, great to find a forum that combines Defenders and Caravans. Very interesting thread.
We picked up our new (13'6" internal) custom built van a few weeks ago, itching to sell the house & get on the road now. I can't help noticing how low your UK caravans are, even lower than our On-Road vans, and your vans seem to be way big for single axle units, anything over about 16 foot is sitting on a tandem axle here. Click image to enlarge Had to do a bit of sweet talking to get them to fit Defender pattern hubs, seems 99% of customers want 6 stud LandCruiser pattern !! In the pic I've got the hitch undone and levelled the van so it looks a bit odd where the drawbar is pointing, Since got some Masai Long arm mirrors too, much better than the add on ones. |

Hi, Quentin, great looking rig....
Is it because 99% of people drive Land Cruisers over there |

Thanks, can't wait to test it in the rough yes thats the problem, 99% of 4x4's here have the toyota 6 stud pattern, ironically Landcruisers, 100 series & newer now use 5 stud rims , but different PCD to the Defender, (pity because the 16" 100 series split rims would go great on a Defer) All the other Jap stuff inc nissans, Pajeros , Prado, HiLux, FJ-Cruiser, Mazda BT50 / Ford Ranger , Holden Colorado etc etc all use the old Toyota 6 stud. Honestly in reality I'd say that less than 1% is a fair representation of Defenders vs other 4x4 in this country, sad but true. |

Love your outfit quentin
I think my next van will be an imported Kedron Topender .......... I wish, but a man can dream...... http://www.kedroncaravans.com/topender.html Brian. ps it would be a wasted purchase though as the only off roading it would get is going onto and off a grass pitch |

Friends of ours in Australia have a Trakmaster on order - picking up later this year I believe. They are currently 'nomadic' touring with a roof tent on a Toyota, but will then combine a bit of luxury and comfort in the van, with the odd night away with the tent. Sounds bloody marvelous! The obligatory shot of our rig, having now towed it 200-odd miles to Devon:

Cool, I appreciate your time in doing that
That one is a bit posher than mine though, we don't have a loo, hot water or the rear window..... I did take it out at the weekend....so I could get the jet ski out Mrs G bought a load of stuff for it last night, so when it's in the correct surroundings, I'll get some pictures up Thanks again |
