Bit late now if you've got one on order....Depends what you want out of it....For me it's fantastic but all I do is listen to music from the various inputs. There will always be people with bad reviews or pour scorn on your choice, plug in, play and enjoy. You can always improve/fettle/tweak your set up with a pre-amp, subwoofer, speakers etc if you so wish later. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

I've got my head unit in but rally needs the DIN cage fitted to so it's locked in I also have my ipod cable routed up to near the glove box shelf I'm starting more and more to think that it's not a good place to have it on display! I was thinking about re-routing it into the cubby box. Only problem is to do so head unit has to come out wires re-routed and cubby removed and a small incision made in the bottom of the box

As a complete ICE numpty and a tight Yorkshireman to boot I am looking to improve my tunes and leave the wallet in tact.
So far the Sonichi SB50 (just search it on Google) seems to get cracking reviews, integrated via Bluetooth with the iPhone for playing music and phone calls, has an external mic and is DAB as well. So, that's easy enough. Now I have read a number of people say you need a new head-unit and a powered sub. Any ideas of a suitable sub? I am guessing screwing it to the back of the cubby box is the best idea? (or under a rear seat maybe). Sorry to hijack the thread... 2015 110 USW XS in Santorini with premium contrast leather seats in tan/black, black headlining and with Dual Finish alloys (in the garage, now on Wolf rims with Goodyear MT/Rs) 2012 '62' 2.2 X-Tech 110 USW now gone ... 1984 90 soft top with full roll cage, 200 tdi engine etc now sold 2012 USW XS 2.2 "FUU" now gone.... |

I have a few different subs across my vehicles. The installations that have worked best have been where the sub is under the rear seat. This unit from focal gives out an impressive amount of bass:
Focal Bus 20 I always replace the 4-inch speakers with better items which noticeably improves the sound. regards Ian |

Depends what size sub you have some are massive some small mostly between 8 inch and 12. You'd need plenty of room. Plus I doubt who would be using the said seat with a sub under would be too happy about it! Also you'd need an amp which you'd need to mount in a suitable place as they can get hot and over heat. |

Don't know about that, KonaB. The one I linked to doesn't require an amp as it is an active subwoofer. I like a fair amount of bass, and this unit with an 8 inch driver gives out plenty. There is a 10 inch version too.
If the bass was so overwhelming as to make a rear seat passenger miserable, I guess it would also sound unbalanced in the front with such small speakers providing the mid and top. regards Ian |

I have the Pioneer version of the active sub in my SVX copy behind one of the rear (inward facing) seats and it works really well and I've had no complaints from rear seat passengers ....

good and bad reviews - I can understand that, these are not like any radio unit you will have used before, there's some great features (like google maps, fuel price/location software) and it's well made. the thing that is good and bad about the units is the firmware, it's running a unix/linux o/s. access to some of the functions takes a little getting used to but that could change depending on the next release of the firmware. I would like to see the display auto-dim when it gets dark.. maybe i'll submit a suggestion. On the positive side, the sounds are good, K9F even managed to fit an amp behind the unit as they are about 1/2 depth of a regular unit, the voice recognition is great for the telephone and music selection .. |
