Trouble is the the LED one's is I don't doubt that they're good. bloomin heck they should be for the price! But With such a value to them and only taking a few mins to remove they'd seem a good target to me for theft. Shocked

Can I just make a plea for people NOT to install HID? They WILL dazzle people coming the other way which is a massive problem if you're on a motorcycle. If means you can't see the road surface in front of you so whereas a car can easily go over a slippery manhole cover on a corner, in the dark with headlamp dazzle in that situation a bike is highly likely to crash. So PLEASE do not covert your LR to HID.

Bulb replacement is extremely effective and already covered in this thread. I cannot understand the utter obsession that Land Rover owners have for wanting to light up the scenery like they're in a Bond movie. It's bloody ridiculous and dangerous.

The good old light debate!

There are literally hundreds of light emitting devices available for use with Defenders be it LED work lights HID headlamps etc etc.

What amazes me is that so many of the lights available do not give the basic bit of information which is essential for lights and that is the actual light output from the device.

The power consumed by the unit be it 6/21/5/75/100 watts IS important for working out cabling/fuse/relay size but has no direct relevance to actual light output or range.

Lightforce lights and the J W Speaker lights are a couple of manufacturers who do give a measurement of light output.

When lumens are mentioned are the manufacturers talking raw or effective lumens? Candela or candlepower.

I for one will be happier when all light manufacturers gives out realistic effective lumen figures. and on an acceptable industry standard

Then there is the IP rating or Ingress Protection rating for dust and water. A lot of the work lights etc do not have an IP rating, how often have you seen lights more akin to goldfish bowls?

As for the Defender light switch issue on our recent trip we picked up a couple of these Have not had a chance to play with them yet

That looks great. If I understand the translation of the website correctly, it is also available with wiring for auxiliary lamps. Would that allow auxiliary lights to be wired so they come on with main beams?

I look forward to seeing how you get on with this.

Probably a 4000K HID is a good choice. White enough and long lasting bulbs. Uprated H4 bulbs (Philips, Osram, PIAA, etc) have very limited life. IMHO Puma 110" SW

Oh yes, LED Lightbars are oh so lovely! SteveS off here had his on the Arctic Trip last month. When he was several hundred yards behind and sparked it up, it was so bright it was deafening (if you know what I mean.)

I was thinking about those LED headlamps. As the MOT regs make retro-fit HID a non-starter on a Defender from this year, the next best in terms of price performance is a new loom, better lenses and high wattage bulbs. I reckon that is still a £350 solution fitted.

I have ample auxilliary lighting on my trucks, but sometimes you just want a well-patterned, bright dipped beam.

I wonder how long before LED replacements are £500 a pair?
