Headlight. H4 12v 100w /80w
SideLight. 207 12v 5w Indicator. 581. 12v 21w Stop/Tail. 380. 12v. 21w/5w Numberplate. 233. 12v4w The codes are for the shape of bulb, so they should be the same for an LED type. The wattage will be different, but you shoudl be able to find LED bulbs of equivalent power.... http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/581-PY21W-led-bulbs/ The above link is for 581 bulb. Just do the same for each type and shop around... Hope this helps. |

382 is the standard indicator bulb [for the majority of 90/110 models] .... 581 is the yellow coated one with offset pins, Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

They're H4 60w/55w as fitted at the factory. You can get H4 100w/80w but the headlight switch on a Defender melts easily enough as it is. I even carry a spare one now; they never fail in daylight Dave Green Goddess - 1998 Defender 110 300tdi |

I got a pattern part from Roeans in Telford - about £30 if I remember and it came in a Lucas box. Not sure if that's a good thing Dave

Apologies for digging up an old thread - found it useful in thinking upon retrograde LED lamp fitting.
Found the following at abd.co.uk - they also have a nifty model to demonstrate both OEM & LED bulbs for your Defender. Front side lights - BA15s SCC (207) Rear numberplate lights - BA9s (233) Rear indicators, foglamp, reversing lamp - BA15s (382) Front indicators ("offset pin") - BAU15s (581) Rear stop- and taillamps combination - BAY15d (380) |

Obligatory vehicle lights have to be type approved which these days means E marked.
The approval is to how the light was tested and supplied by the original manufacturer. So if a standard filament bulb was originally in the fitting then that was what the type approval is for. Put a LED in and the type approval Is void as it is an unapproved modification which the original manufacturer has not tested. As such those lights are ILLEGAL and are not allowed to be used on the public highway. Brendan |
