Had one of those Grump moments today, took the boys and dogs for a day out at Pembrey Country Park by Llanelli. Whilst driving from Llandielo to Cross Hands which is not exactly the straightest or levellist of routes but halfway going up a longish climb at a reasonable road speed I swung round a left hand bend to find 2 road cyclists in full latex garb riding side by side chatting away to each other at all of 5mph. Thank goodness for a gap in the oncoming traffic, which on the whole were cutting the corner so giving even less room for manoeuvure. I know that you drive to the road conditions and be aware of other road users, in this situation I was able to clear the obstacle with little problem it could have been so much different
![]() I do partake of bicycle riding myself(when it's not raining ![]() ![]() |

I'm getting p*ssed off with all these 'Think Bike' signs.
When are they gonna put up some 'Biker, think other road user' signs? ![]() Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated ![]() ![]() |

Stand aside..... grumpy old woman coming through.....
Now, is this a Defender forum or isn't it? I'm all for live and let live and everyone buys a Land Rover for different reasons, etc etc... some people want to take good care of them as they want them to last and keep their value but..... WTF is it with all these threads about polish? It is a bleeding Defender. It is supposed to get dirty / scratched / look like a complete shed but still go about doing useful stuff or helping people have fun! Now, no offence intended to any individual here but a thread all about polishing a steering guard? WTF????? It is supposed to be used, get dirty, get scratched ! ![]() You know, if execs at Land Rover were to be reading some of the stuff on here they'd be thinking they had got the new Defender concept completely spot on, because people don't want an iconic workhorse, they just want bling! We will reap what we sow and all that ! There, said it. Feel better now. Ta. ![]() ![]() |

Bling is totally different. Some of the stuff you see bolted on is pointless and pure posing value, however I see nothing wrong in looking after a vehicle, especially if you want to keep it long-term. You should see the effort some truck drivers go to, makes Zag look like a disinterested amateur (No offence Zag
![]() They were designed to work, but I don't think they were intended to be abused. I would not put dents in my vehicle for the sake of it, nor even scratch it if I can help it. If folks want to shine them up then fair play to them I say. Especially when it comes to series vehicles I think it would make a nice change from the beaten up old sheds you see knocking about. |

Plus I paid extra for metallic paint! Mine looks completely abused and unloved at times, absolutely filthy and covered in alsorts of mud and clumps of grass, and I like it like that. Then again I like it looking spotless too. I'd love for mine to look as clean as Zag's all the time though. Shows I take pride in my vehicle. Plus if I turn up to a job interview for example in an abused looking Defender it won't give off a very good impression. If I rock up in a nice shiny clean one I'm sure it'll look a lot better. |

Well, as I said, live and let live and all that and mine isn't exactly a shed and mostly it is used on tarmac, and I do want it to look nice and stay in good nick. Took its 1 year old resprayed paintwork on the coast to coast laning trip last summer and its got hairline scratches down both sides now - but you can't tell unless you get close up. Polished it last week before getting the cage on and it does look rather bling and shiny at the mo, but give it a few weeks and it'll look a bit messy again...
Love it when it has mud splashes after laning or going to my sisters on the farm as it looks like it has been doing something more useful for once! lol But just at the moment the number of threads on this forum about polishing and fairly pointless trinket acquisition seem to be outnumbering those where people are actually doing exciting and interesting things IN their Defenders... Just got me a bit grumpy that's all.... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

LOL.
I do the same with my PCs, nothing goes into them that isnt needed, no neon lights or silly logos but i do like to polish the case and any of the nickel plated fittings i use for water cooling. The bash plate will get scratched i know that, it will get dirty. But since this will be the first new vehicle i have owned i did want to take the time to clean, seal and polish anything that could be done so i could enjoy it a little more when i look back at it after parking. ![]() |

wow......virtual internet polishing fisty-cuffs over cleaning a defender. as I read the threads I could'nt help but agree with all the comments. perhaps I have a split personality. I bought mine because it was'nt a shiney flash eurobox and if it got the odd scratch I would'nt care but I do like to keep it clean-ish.
I see both points of view and agree with both. but that's what make a good forum. individuality and honesty. opps - this seems to be an anti-grump post..... ![]() |

Defenders should be like gruff country folk (such as myself, ahem).... workmanlike most of the time but scrub up nicely when wearing a dinner jacket.
