Hi James,
milage is upto 132k but i had to put a Turner recon engine in 4k miles ago after a "sustained" run down to Winchester. i will ask the IT bods at work how to use the scanner and see if i can get the LRO article up. |

the external roof scoop is made out of mdf; but a friend has taken a mold and made several copies in fibreglass; when i put a version on my puma i will get a copy out of aluminium.
The grille on the underside of the vent is a grille from the bonnet of a RR classic (approx 250mmx100mm). The internal mini vent controller come with tubular ducts that penetrate the roof and then sealed with mastic so i have not had any water penetrate the air vent. The external cover is bolted (x4) to the roof with captive bolts on the cover and a very thin compression gasget to the perimeter. the rear tub of the vehicle has got 3 recessed lashdown points on the leading edges of the wheel arches. It also has a camping strip light rather than the small interior light in the headlining. The rear door has a dropdown tray and the door can be wedged open with a extending ali pole that is attached to the door head and a bracket fixed externally above the roof gutter. Tom also gave me a triangular canvas awning that threads into a slotted channel above the rear roof gutter out to the door so you can eat at the rear of the vehicle in the shade (or dry in the UK). The vehicle came with all terrains on rostyles from memory but Tom also gave me a set of five sand tyres (i think they were the same as the standard military pattern?); and these were sold to Matt Savage. |

I remember this well and still have all my LRO's going back to 1992 when I first wanted to get a Series 3 (I was a young bloke then!)

i accept that it did look better when new but i tend to use my vehicles; if only i hadn't met the right girl, settled down, got married and started a family i could of kept it looking like new 
this is not ment to sound grumpy, merely resentful that i haven't got the amount of free time compared to when i was single  |

I always liked those tie-down points on the rear edge of the seat boxes - so simple and effective!
As far as i know they were custom-made and never available commercially, but if anyone knows differently please do tell! Any aftermarket parts makers want to start making them? I'd by a set! |

ibexman - the dash is a cut down and sprayed 300 tdi dash with an intrument binnicle from a disco; with the upper shelf and binnicle surround in painted mdf. it could all do with a rub down and repaint but i have been busy on doing up and extending our house since we were flooded in 2007

Thanks for that, FG, I had always assumes that they had been specially made. If from a chandler there is a good chance I can find some since I live in Poole, the world epicentre of chandlers! |

Wow - not seen that vehicle before. It has some great ideas. It's a great shame the current range don't have the bulkhead vents
- one of my favourite features of the older vehicles.
Roof scoop would not look out of place on a rally/raid vehicle but again like the thinking behind it. Did anyone ever track down those flush fitting tie-down bars? |

I still cant believe that with all Toms practicality, he would allow MDF to be used in/on his LR. No way in hell it will go near mine. I would still iike some close up pics of the roof vent if possible. cheers Serg |

well if it is the same stuff as in Australia, it is a fine particle borad. That is timber particles. It is often used in kicthen and cabinet making. Many upper class homes of the early 90's here on the east coast used it for skirting boards (base board trim) Becasue the developers could run custom profiles easy and it painted well. After a few years if doesnt hold up well at all indoors. It is very easlily affected by moisture. Im a carpenter and could easliy make the roof vent out of it, but id cut off my right hand beford doing so. I have seen older small trucks (Isuzu, dyna, Mitsubishi etc) with molded plastic roof top vents that are at the front edge of windscreen, I would have thought this be the easy option.....
