tapping puma engine
Not sure but i think my engine is getting more tappy, its more noticable when driving at low speeds with a small amount off acceleration i have just done 1500 miles since new.Is this normal engine noise or should i be concerned.

Put some fuel conditioner in the tank to quieten it down.

Mine is the same at times ..... no pattern to it, some days it 'taps' more then others ... i blame fuel quality myself, dunno if im right though Confused Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

Just need to alter the advance of the pilot injection a little between 1000 - 1500rpm at light to medium engine loads.

I could also ease the fuel pressure set points around these areas too. Wink

Fuel quality and cetane value matter, when it comes to keeping your engine quiet, and clean. 2 stroke works brilliantly!

I currently use Carlube 2 stroke, the red stuff. You don't need much, as a small bottle should last quite a few tank fulls, depending on the size of your tank of course.

I put half a 250ml bottle in my TDV8 at a filling station earlier today, and got asked what I was doing by the bloke there.

If you are in Tesco pick up some of their 2 stroke motor cycle oil oil. It is mineral based to FB standard which is good enough for the 2.4 Puma. Use 250 ml or 1/4 litre per tank.
If you have a 2.2 Puma use FC spec 2 stroke owing to the DPF. fitted.
Have been using 2 stroke at every fill up. Does not increase mpg appreciably but keeps everything smooth and quiet. Good for your emissions too. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Yep, seems quieter and I add it at the rate of 250 to 300ml per tank. I buy Sainsbury's diesel as it's cheaper and the 2SO makes a difference.

I have the same tapping with 1000 miles on the clock. Only bought fuel from Esso station but it is located at a supermarket... Most of my diesel driving neighbors use 'additives' but I thought no need if it's proper branded (additives included etc) fuel, maybe it isn't... Will try the 2SO trick - top tip, cheers. 2011 Defender 90 SW

Would this be suitable for 2.2 Pumas?

I was reading in another thread here that it should be mineral based JASO-FC?
