Trouble is with a veh borne exped/camping exped the kit list will grow.
What some people decide is necessary others will say is an extravagance.

For me a weekend away in the D3 takes a bit of prep. My list would be

Rooftent, + Annex
Side awning with wall set
Fridge
Rear store drawer for food
Sleeping bags
Good camping chairs
Camp table
2 ring cooker and spare gas bottle
Mil water jerrycans X2

Some say a fridge is not necessary but I disagree. Tea should be drunk from a china cup and with proper milk, no longlife rubbish. I'd rather drink black coffee with sugar than tea with UHT/longlife!!

Going away for longer only usually means up-scaling the quantity of items. Perhaps some spares for the vehicle but if in UK then I have a warranty on the D3 so thats taken care of. If overseas away from main dealers then spare hoses, fuses, cable but to be truthful theres not a lot you can do to a D3 if stuck in the back of beyond and broken down.
I'd made a concious decision when I went to Morocco that if I had an accident or had a MAJOR issue that required a huge expense to get recovered then a gallon of finest 4* and a match would be the solution. 110 D250 SE HT
