Just purchased one of these from the states. It supports OBDII and the Ford protocols so should be OK for the Puma.
http://www.ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/index.htm Looks to have more options than the scangauge and at £65 delivered (It is on offer just now) it looks a good deal. Fedex is delivering it so I will probably have to pay an additional 20% vat before they will deliver it. Even then £78 is still cheaper than a scangauge Brian. |

Keep it, use it, and be thankful you have an excellent tool! LR90XS2011.....Scangauge is a very useful tool and there are many posts/threads advocating their performance. I have one and as stated before pound for pound it will be hard to beat. Lorryman may take some time to prove this new one's worth. If you were to buy a Scangauge I am sure you would not be disappointed. http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic4510.html?highlight=scangauge http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic9642.html?highlight=scangauge If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! I got one of those recently, FedEx will send you an invoice a week or so later thought I had got away with that.
Haven't had time to install in 110 yet apart from checking it worked. 48 gauges IIRC and up to 8 on a screen, seven different screens cycle round or can be selected, so all looking good. Downsides - bright blue colour , but I'll remedy that by printing a coloured vinyl overlay Buttons on back, but with careful mounting it seems that the buttons can be made to work by gently pushing on the front Don't think it will be easy to mount in defender as the scan gauge , it's a different shape Display is a bit 'blocky' but much like the scan gauge from pics I've seen Upsides - Cheaper More screens/gauges at once Really big upside wife's Smart car (got that to justify two defenders ) packed up in our lane in the snow, lots of dashes on screen, so just for interest before going to garage I plugged in the gauge , identified the fault with help from google, cleared it and it's been fine since! So a big result there. When I phoned the garage I was told it would be £150 to diagnose fault and it would probably be a new ecu at "probably" over a grand!! So money well spent even if I never use it again. I'd say it's worth a look, preferably by someone who knows about these things Ironic that wifey bought it from USA as a surprise (having looked at my posts and history ) and it was her car that needed getting out of the poo. Yep it definitely works in a puma, rev counter seemed to be spot on which might indicate other gauges would be.
Works in gallons and metric and can be calibrated for speed, fuel etc so if done properly should give accurate mpg, performance etc. As I said earlier also works with other cars as well, so can be a multipurpose tool, surprised the hell out of me that I was able to sort out the smart no problem. That's part of the calibration, you enter the tank size, amount put in to fill up, run it until next fill up, then enter the amount to refill and it works it out from there (thats how I read it) so I guess it could work in any unit you fancy - pints even. The metric bit is that it will report centigrade as well Fahrenheit etc as well as the ability to show kilometres, litres etc which was missing off the earlier version. Also now reports in litres per kilometre (or whatever the Europeans use) as well as mpg, so will work great for us Brits. You have the choice of display, so mpg and centigrade temp, so a mixture of both metric and imperial can be shown.
Seems to be quite flexible now. Probably quite scary when you have the mpg calibrated! Still umming and aahing about wher to mount it. Has a decent windscreen mount included so I'll probably go that way when I get time to play with it. @ Dj,
do you know if it just reports on generic DTC's ie: P0---, or does it also include manufacturer specific DTC's ie: P1---.P2--- etc? Brian. |
