Maybe I didn't express myself well. Many years ago I had an old car that had { I think it was called McPherson Strut } front suspension that was basically the same as the Defender i.e.: Coil Spring with the Shock absorber in the centre. In order to change the shock you had to get it out and this was done by compressing the coil spring and disconnecting both spring and shock from the car and then sliding out shock. The Coil spring was compressed and then held in compression by metal [ clamps, normally 3 that, were slipped over the compressed coils . To my mind, if a similar system was used and a [ clamp was left on then that coil spring would be shorter - hence the vehicle would list to that side. I don't know how the shock was changed, only you would know that, nor if this method was used . It is just a theory, but if the vehicle was level before and is now listing, something has obviously happened to alter the suspension height. So even if you are mechanically challenged - careful visual examination of both front suspensions, measurements e.g.: Floor to wheel arch etc: should show which side is affected. Take some photos and display here?

To cure this problem on mine, I kept swopping the tyres around until the problem went. Now they are all labelled so I can put them back in the same place when I put the summer tyres back on.
Strangely fitting KM2 tyres also solved the problem. Merlin |

sounds like steering damper clamp in wrong position or track rod problem. unlikely to be shocks or spacers

I accept what your saying BigMike but the poster stated the vehicle was now listing to the Left after the changes - not before

Thanks all for helpful inputs. Was just looking over pictures taken during the shock replacement. I did notice that front shock was replaced with removal of the turret, then by prefix the shock to the turret prior install. A hammer was used to set the new shock back into the turret.
Could something go wrong here? Also I noticed rubber bush goes on the end of the shock, if not fitted could it cause the tilt? |

Hello great discovery today, no the truck is still on the open sea. But did manage look over workshop manual for Puma on the front suspension. Some enlightments here:
First of all, so whats holding the spring in place once the wheel has been lifted off the ground? The answer I found is the SHOCK. Secondly, what is the easiest way to lift the Defender or any car for an inch or so without spring and shock modifications? RUBBER BUSHINGS! With those two questions answered, here is the Hypothesis. If one of the rubber bushing inside the turret is left out on the left shock, would it result the tilt to the left and a sever left drift when driven?  |

No, i don't think it would, the ride height is dictated by the spring, not the damper.

Then what would happen if the nut is loosen on top of the turret?

Does your truck have anti-roll bars fitted? If so, and it was supported on the chassis at some point during the process, then it's possible that one of the links was accidentally inverted, which would make it sit awkwardly.
To be honest, I understand from other posts that the work was done for you, possibly by a forum sponsor? If so, should you not be asking them what they've done? Mine drifts left round roundabouts when i stamp on the loud pedal... and sometimes drifts to right round left handers too...
