United Kingdom 2008 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Tonga Green
2.2 motor still called Puma
Got a promo card from LR yesterday, asking me how I'd like to drive/own an icon. The Defender!

Among the features listed was 2.2 Puma engine. Nice to know that the name has stayed, & is official. Meanwhile I'm still waiting for an official or Haynes service manual for my 2.4 Puma. Confused Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

@dgardel: why would keeping the name be normal? Is normal a valid vocabulary used in connection with things related to us old lunatics driving automobilistic dinosaurs? Even now with basically the same engine they could have chosen to name it Vroomfondel to keep us in the mood for the DC100 with its surely groundbreacking New Vroomfondel Engine For The Next Century, or short VNVEFTNC? Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel.

I had an email from Haynes saying they have no intention of producing a manual for the 2.4 Puma Defenders anytime soon! See below... Big Cry

Dear xxxxxxxxx
Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding a Service and Repair Manual for your vehicle. Unfortunately, we do not produce a Manual for this particular model and have no plans to do so within the next 12 to 18 months.
However, all customer requests are recorded and used in the decision making process of future Manual publications/updates.
You could try contacting your local dealer to see if he can be of assistance.

Kind regards
Vicky Hall

About the Puma codename you just have answer about it.

BUT I REMEMBER TO ALL THAT LAND ROVER ARE USING THE 2.2 NOW BECAUSE FORD, FOR COST REDUCTION REASONS, HAD RATIONALISED THE PUMA ENGINE LINE UP WITH:

2.2L
3.2L

ONLY!!!!

On transit up to 2011, had the 2.4L with DPF in the same configuration of the 2.2....

look on the latest Transit RWD or 4WD.....

is the DPF installed on 2.4 TDCi Transit.

The DPF on Defender is closed to the cat to permit the cleaning cycle at very low speed. Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition
