I worked my way through the HGV licences from when I was 18 (courtesy of the Armed Forces), got the HGV Class 3, Class 2 then Class 1 before they changed it to LGV. Then thought I may as well get the full set so did my HAZMAT, petrol tankers & motorbike licence also. But never really took it up as a profession. Shame really cus I love eating at them truckers cafes Very Happy

Might have to think about getting one of those covers Brian. I guess to keep it clean you have to wipe it down when arriving at the site? But I assume they do a good job of protecting the van from the bigger stones that our tyres like to pick up.

I got a Specialised towing protector- only lasted one season before the material became very weak and ripped in the stressed areas.

I think folk either love em or hate em. Ive read that the half height towing protectors can trap dirt behind them, so I guess a full height one is best, or even tailor made?

well what a nuisance

getting the caravan ready for the off at the weekend and I found evidence of water ingress around the toilet cassette door Sad which means I'll have to trundle it up to the dealer in Cookstown, Tyrone after our hols. There's also a slight buzzing sound from the ECB when heating water on electricity too. Lunar seem to have been quite sparing with the sealant compared to my previous Swift and we only bought it new last May. Grrrr.

Do you use a pressure washer on it?

god no I'd never use a pressure washer on a caravan - thats asking for trouble ! But it certainly looks like a very thin bead of sealant was applied at the factory and it appears to have cracked (doesn't look like the usual Sikaflex stuff). We had to wait 5 months for that van so I'm guessing they were flat out and rushed things. Anyway its still under warranty

Arrived at Cong, Co Mayo and I was very impressed at how the Defender dismissed the paltry 1450 kg of our van with ease. The effect on the engine was minimal which was a big surprise. I can see how these beasts can pull up to 4 tonnes.

Cong is a beautiful place. The caravan site is right beside Ashford Castle (playground of the rich and famous) but when we got here we were the only ones on site for the first day ! With all the facilities to ourselves I felt like Jack Nicholson in 'The Shining' All I needed was a typewriter ! Half term here but most places are still well out of the tourist season so the village was quiet and thats how I like it.

and of course we had to have a drive around Ashford Castle - lots of flash motors around there but the Defender out posed the lot - the Americans seemed particularly curious and I felt like saying ' you might be a millionnaire but you can't get your hands on one of these in the US of A !'

well there's nowt wrong with Teneriffe but if you do go to the Lakes I can heartily recommend the Caravan Clubs Park Coppice site near Coniston. We had two memorable weeks there last year. The kids didn't want to leave and unusually for the Lake District most days were warm and sunny
