Sorry Zag, but talking of Avatar regulations, you appear to have changed yours to a 'filthy' shot of a Defender passing through a body of water with peripheral views of muddy banks!!!?!? its just there is an artical in land rover monthly about a guy who drove from london to cape town in a disco he states that he never fitted a snorkel because they drain power from the engine and increase fuel consumption i cant see why this should be the case.

Deepening on the type and head if the snorkel the air will have longer to travel and slow down, as the heads differ in size you may also not suck as much air in. Thus meaning that you may end up having an inconsistan mix burning less fuel in the cylinder and spitting the rest out the back due to lack of air causing you to hit the right pedal to go faster and buri g more fuel giving you less mpg Russell 2011MY 110 XS USW Black |

When I fitted a Safari snorkel to my 300tdi Discovery, there was a small but noticable improvement in performance. I put this down to it being less restrictive that the original air intake, which was buried behind the headlight. I'm not sure that there would be the same difference on a Defender though, as the original air intake position is still used.
When I subsequently drove that Disco through Morocco, there was noticably less dust in the air filter than in those of the Range Rover and Defenders on the same trip that didn't have snorkels. I attributed this to it drawing in air from higher up. Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing?
