I know this has been discussed a lot in the past (cable-locks etc.) but is there anything new out there?
Probably driving around Essex and up to Yorkshire later in the year and I don't want to be "scalped" Cheers Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

OX4X4 Based in Guernsey have got some 'under development.' I purchased some stainless steel ones off them and have 'held off' fitting them as I intend to drill and tap the vehicle (not bonnet) portion of the hinge and fit a grub screw that will prevent the bonnet from raising enough to lift it out of the hinge. There are several options if you do a search. Zagato sourced a bicycle lock if I remember correctly. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Mines similar to a bike lock, but a bit more robust ..
Halfords do a 2 metre steel cable with a loop each end ... got that through the 'flutes' on both sides of bonnet, and padlocked together/onto the front lifting eye http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/...yId_165637 Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

i'll stick to my cable All someone with cnc needs to do is make an ali block with the base shaped to fit on a standard hinge top, that can be bolted on using the two rear hinge bolts [with longer bolts], and shaped in such a way that they butt up against the bulkhead long before the bonnet is raised high enough to lift off the mounts. I'd buy them ... as long as they were sensible money Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

I tried to take mine off today to clean and tinker the engin but one of the rubber filler/supports ha over turned so when rotated fully to the position that you would remove the bonnet, it has the rubber preventing it. I tried a screwdriver, my brother and a neighbour holding it while I yanked, wiggled and rotate aggressively but it is stuck fast! No scalped getting my bonnet haha. ===================================

"Evolution" - the machines are taking matters into their own hands!
Thought about it some more - why can't a thief just take a hex key and undo the hinge? I've asked at LRS but any Ideas? PMs probably better than open-forum Cheers, Matt Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Tell someone you love them today because life is short. 2 reasons come to mind
One they won't be expecting it so won't have tools Use of lock nuts so bolts will just spin not undo You could always just do the bearing in the hole trick? It is a theft that I really don't understand, the bonnet is one of the pumas nasty parts, but obviously that is just my opinion due to the amount of thefts. Would think yours would be ok ZeDef, as justice is better sausage side Andy |

This, fortunately, is true but Lisa and I are planning to do an Essex (did you guess from the name ) and Yorkshire trip this Summer. Either that or Serbia/Croatia etc... The "not expecting" bit is hopefully true Excuse my ignorance but is a lock nut more clever just a nut with a bit of plastic inside it? And what is the "bearing trick"? PM? Hope you recovered from the horrors of skiing I just can't be arsed to do it any more - pointless - net change in altitude = zero Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. With a lock nut fitted to the fixing bolts,(either nylock nut, or two flat nuts together) you would need to use torx/Allen key on the top and spanner underneath, so won't just be able to undo from above.
The bearing trick is to force a bearing into the hole of the Allen/torx bolt head, so no tool can be used, as hole is blocked. I also can't be arsed with skiing, pointless, recovering locals that think they are snow driving gods is much more fun Andy |

Think I'm as unclear as ever - the hinge seems to have a hex bolt horizontally through the joint - see the black one here:
http://www.lrsoffroad.co.uk/content/cor4-bonnet-hinges Just can't see why it's hard to undo Yes, even with decent winter tyres, people here can get stuck if they try hard enough Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
