firstly not sure if this is the right place for this but....
as I'm sure some of you will have seen the really smart converted sankey trailer in the photo album (I think it was sonic3d). anyway I'm thinking about creating something similar but I'm wondering what guage ally sheet I should use? (I bet you're all thinking if I don't know what to use perhaps I shouldn't even attempt to make one?......well thats what I'm thinking anyway?) any other advice would be very much appreciated ![]() |

well it depends on the framework i guess. I've seen marine ply sides with a thin guage ali sheet glued to that. 2mm thick?
Ali is soft and marks easy. What about zintek or galvy sheet steel. Won't rust and won't dent as easy. If you going box section frame then thicker guage or even signage board which is laminated and you can by upto 8mm thick. Or use durbar, check plate to the masses. Think it looks ![]() ![]() some late night reading! http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/thre...ler-Builds |

the plan is to replace the standard tub off the sankey 3/4 ton and having someing this simlar to that in Sonic3d's album.
so rear door but probably a slide out which might be able to double up as a table, probably internal space for gas bottle(s), hinged lid to access general storage space for tent, beds etc and facility for roof rack which would likely be used for carrying bikes......and most importantly in stornaway grey !! ![]() |

in terms of construction my thoughts were ally / ply base with tub made from flat ally with riveted angles in the corners and riveted bracing from 'u' section ally. internally clad with sticky back sound proofing or similar to minise dents (from the inside out at least and to protect contents against direct contact with metal work.???
