Brilliant, I hate those noises.. wind noise, whine noise not a problem but little rattles!!
o/t (TD5)I have one too, been chasing it for about a year. Pretty sure I have found it too. The down pipe from the turbo has a flexi joint and this must have a split in, it gives this really annoying tizzing noise which sounds like it is right behind the dashboard. Steve |

Steve you are the man!!!!
What an insight you gave me. I have a small rattle behind the dashboard somewhere around the heater control knobs which starts at 1950rpm and dissapears at 2050rpm which drives me REALLY crazy I was always searching somewhere behind the dashboard but never thought that it could actually come from behind it and into the engine bay. So I will search for it first thing tomorrow. Funny thing is that I believe the best way to track down this rattle would be someone driving with 2000rpm and somebody else hanging on top of the engine with the bonnet half open on top of him... What a sight would that be for my neighbors!! Mike |

It could be Mike, mine is LHD too. Crawl under and give the pipe a knock with your hand, mine rattles! If you look at the joint while it is on tick over I can see a piece of metal dancing around (behind the mesh).
I too had the dash out, found a dried leaf and thought it was that Best of luck, I am getting a new pipe on payday. Steve |

I removed my front disc protection plates completely on advice from others on this forum. I was fed up with stones getting caught between them and the discs when offroad. My 1950rpm rattle was the exhaust manifold heat shield. That too appeared to come from the dashboard.... |

Thanx Scotty,
Will check that also maybe tomorrow. Your rattle started at 1950 and then above 2050 was away? or it was still there? I guess you tightened the screws in this sheild and the rattle went off? Cheers, Mike |

re exhaust heat shield look out for the rear bolt missing - seems quite common. Lost mine in the Pyrenees and had to stuff a bit of copper wire between shield and manifold to stop the rattle until I got home

I had a squeaking noise for the LHS of the cabin......I tried everything to find it. The dash was secure, everything below was tight......I'm embarrassed to say it but here goes. The front passenger seat where it attaches to the rails was the culprit. Made an awful amount of irritating noise........what I'm saying is the simple things can be the offenders as in my case. Yep, I've got that squeaking seat problem Is much better when I've dropped him off at school but the seat does still rattle, it doe's make a difference if you put the seat back at a different angle or even move it a notch forward

It started at about 1950 and was done by about 2000, so very short but noticeable. It went in for a number of squeaks and rattles and the dealer sorted it so I'm not sure exactly which bolts they tightened but that's what they said was the cause. |
