er.. read the post sir !
I asked previously if syntrax was fine for this application and many oil boffins said it was even though there is divided opinion over GL4/5 vs GL5 and I've always sworn by all things Castrol so in it went ! (oh, I think your firm owns castrol so everyone's happy!) |

sorry Rossy ... its a job I'm going to do shortly, I'm not familiar with Syntrax but I'll get some.
Just being lazy... how much do I need for both axles ? |

the front takes 1.7 litres and the back 2.3. In reality though I don't think its possible to drain all of it out as the drain plugs are offset from the bottom of the sump. Also its a good idea to heat the oil up a little before you fill ( I left mine in front of the fire for a couple of hours first) and when you've filled up to the filler hole in each diff go for a short spin before checking the level again as some gets distributed through the system. Out of 4 litre bottles I only had about 200ml left which is about right. Check out Castrol's website as there's been a name change for Syntrax. Its the same product but I think its now called something else ! |

NO NO, both diffs rate for 1.6 litres each. If you overfill the diffs (same for the gearbox) they push out the oil seals....... 2.3 litres is for the gearbox see at page 123 of this document Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition IID Pro MV License |

thats correct dgardel - for a 90. Mine's a 110 and the rear diff on a 110 takes 2.26 litres. You had me worried there for a minute !
