Looks like a drain teet from the heater intake box? Have a feel under the box in the area of the arrows in the pic as there should be two drain teets

I also went checking and found two of those. One inside at the backside of the heater intake box which you can easily see with a flashlight after unscrewing the plastic inlet cover, and the other is on the bottom of that same heater intake box. Both of them in my case also were filled with some muck, not too bad though.
I carefully cleaned the one inside the heater intake box with a wide screwdriver covered with a piece of cotton. The one on the bottom I could squeeze open several times and recovered a few small items which had gotten stuck in it, (a small cherry stone and a small wooden stick ![]() Rgds, Eric You never actually own a Defender. Thanks Lorryman- I duly crawled under the beast this morning with lamp and yes there was the hole under the heater intake missing the bung. So with a bit of spit to lubricate said bung eased it back in to place.
While I was doing this I noticed another displaced bung that was stuck behind a pile leading in to the fuel cooler. Result - this had obviously come out of the second bung hole under the heater intake box. Errr, no because while I was contorting my hand up underneath the box I spotted yet another bung that had been dislodged and was trapped behind the front, nearside plastic wheel arch spray guard. So I've replaced two dislodged bungs and now found a third bung without a home. Hmm, will have to go back under and see if Dgardels thought that it may have come from under the cabin is right. That doesn't look an easy place to get too, even with my long fingers ![]() Thanks guys - Defender2 forum is awesome ![]() Mermoto |

Bloody hell, looking at this picture again it looks impossible to access that bung hole as its above the transmission?? Is it accessible from above? ![]() Mermoto Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated ![]() |

Yes from the gearlever hole. You remove the carpet, then remove the big black sponge (noise blocker) and you car arrive with your arm...... More complicated to write than make the job :-) Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated ![]() ![]() IID Pro MV License |

Also check the Air filter housing as there is one there, unless you have a safari snorkel that is?

Looks like it could be the A/C drain bung,it sits above the bell housing allowing water from the A/C unit to drain.
Thanks Ash |

There is definitely one of those to drain the water from the air conditioning. If you crawl underneath and reach up behind the transmission you'll either find the bung or the hole. I used it to cure a water leak in the passenger footwell which only appeared when driving. By reaching up and squeezing the end of the bung, I got several litres of cold water all over me as it was blocked with crud...

Absolutely awesome guys !!!! I am in Malaga in Spain and if you have ever tried to get a straight answer from a spanish car dealer/ mechanic, you'd understand !!! ( Good luck !!!!) The car is due to go back in to have it sorted under warranty, but I think I will be attempting the over the gearbox gynecologist manoeuvre / crawl first, just to see if I can fix it without a mechanic knackering my pride & joy !! They were talking about taking the whole centre console out !!!! I did have a quick look, but couldn't see any obvious drainage tubes, now I know why !!!!
"I'm not a qualified Gynecologist, but I'll take a bloody good look at it fer ya !" ![]() Thank you all so much for your time, effort & Camaraderie. |
