Just the front sofar (because the original disintegrated). Planning to fit an Ashcroft locker in the back when funds permit.

Thanks. Does Ashcroft not make stronger diffs for the Puma? --

Replacement front diff from LR (4-pinion since the 2-pinion is no longer sold for this application) collected from dealer: £1250.

Replacement torque biasing front diff from Ashcroft c/w with heavy duty crownwheel & pinion including delivery etc: £888

Both prices are outright sales, if you return the old diff to Ashcroft you'll get £90 back.

It really isn't a difficult decision!

Ashcroft Transmissions can supply normal 4-pinion diffs, automatic torque biasing diffs (their own or Quaife), and full locking diffs (their own or ARB) for all wheelbases of Puma, either front or rear. All these are available with optional heavy-duty crownwheel and pinion sets, and you can have the diff pegged if you want too. Details on their website.

I opted for the Ashcroft automatic torque biasing diff with HD crownwheel & pinion, for little more than half the price of a replacement open diff from Landrover. It was also nice to see engineer's blue on the teeth when it arrived, showing that the tooth engagement had been properly set up. Many Landrover diffs recently have not been at all well built!

Thing is, I don't necessarily want a TruTrac/Arb locker. I just want a standard diff that won't break in another 29,000km.

Since I do mostly overlanding, if something goes wrong in the bush, it's easier to find a village workshop that knows the standard LR parts than some complicated aftermarket part. --

Truetrac (is not a Detroit locker) is a very simple and strong bit for US$450. I agree, an ARB has some seals which can fail (unlikely) and costs the double. A std 4-pin LR would do the job for sure (what cost?).

Any how, why did the diff fail? Puma 110" SW

It has not failed yet. Just the low-frequency drone you hear when you lift off which is the first symptom that it's on its way out. Sad --

Perhaps a pinion-crown adjustment would save the diff. Puma 110" SW
