Some guys have sorted it but I have learned to drive round it - it does not bother me now. |

Do a search - there have been some extreme cases. I think it can be rectified but it was an electrical fault (possibly in the idle jack or ECU - I can't remember the details). One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

I think sometimes it's best to accept that these minor things are there. I know Land Rovers are nowhere near as well put together as say a Lexus but I knew that before I bought mine. I can live with the odd quirky noise as long as it's not serious. My revs thing only does it for the first few gearchanges when cold then stops, I know it does it and I am used to it, mine does it when I depress the clutch and come off the gas but it is not a safety issue with me - it just raises the rpm a bit till I release the clutch again. As soon as I reach the end of my road it stops doing it. When it's serviced I will tell them.

Sorry Pop, when you buy a new vehicle you do expect it to be fit for purpose in this day and age, I already own a AH Sprite and a MGBGT so used to silly oddities but lets face it these are 40/50 year old cars not current production modles,
When in natural the don't expect the Engine to start Revving up 3000 RMP (would have gone higher if I hadn't switch off) then hope its going to behave when you start it again!! I hope when it goes back to LR again for a new clutch they can sort it(been waiting for a month for a clutch)[/img] |

Sounds like the pressure switch on the clutch master cylinder might not be working properly. Next time you drive it try pumping the clutch half a dozen times before you set off and see if it still does it.

Yes agree but maybe my problems are less than others, my revving for example is only for the first 3 gear changes from cold and only a few hundred rpm increase. Soon goes and then trouble free. I agree is should be perfect but I have had Land Rovers before and was well aware of there issues. I could have bought a Toyota Hilux Invincible and it would be like a sewing machine but I was prepared to accept the odd thing for the benefits the Landy gives me. I love the character, the way it will carry mega weight and tow, the way it goes off road, the fact you can customise them however you like and the way they hold there value when you want to sell.

Your problem sounds very similar to that of "The Boy" http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic1200.html. I think they swopped his for another one in the end. Land Rover's don't leak oil, they simply mark their territory! |

Mine didnt/doesnt do it and thats how it should be. Quirks of a car, defender etc, are not these type of issues - dont be suckered into believing that.
I accept LRD's for some of the funny issues, but some are not acceptable common is when 90% on here are reporting it i would say - but i dont care really my point was that it ISNT normal, a fault maybe drummed down as normal, when really its just a common fault. Mike |

Forest mate I feel for you. I went through nearly two years of crap with land rover. Not only was it bad enough that LR were being totaly unfare about the whole thing but also having driven and owned land rovers all my adult life was to find myself being accused of being a winger by other enthuiasts who were fortunate enough to have a lr that worked (this I think was the worse bit). We saved for 16 yrs to buy our first brand new defender so it was to say the least a bit of a let down. I even had a letter from Land Rover to say they could not fix the problem. In the end I wrote two letters to someone high up (after writing about twenty to customer service, non of which were replied to in writing) and got a result. The really scary thing is my old defender is up for sale again

Cheers The Boy, At least I know if I keep on at them I stand a chance.
The 90 goes in next week for the clutch and other issues to looked at including it Revving on its own, I'm not going to be palmed off I want the vehicle I paid for!! fit for purpose  |

Can anyone tell me what the part number is for the new clutch is the Puma, so I can check they are not changing like for like?
