Can anyone tell me what the part number is for the new clutch is the Puma, so I can check they are not changing like for like?

Not sure about this - I looked at the technical bulletin and it suggests that the part number for the new and old clutch assy are the same. I think later ones have uprated springs (which you can only tell if you have it in bits) One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

Forest mate I feel for you. I went through nearly two years of crap with land rover. Not only was it bad enough that LR were being totaly unfare about the whole thing but also having driven and owned land rovers all my adult life was to find myself being accused of being a winger by other enthuiasts who were fortunate enough to have a lr that worked (this I think was the worse bit). We saved for 16 yrs to buy our first brand new defender so it was to say the least a bit of a let down. I even had a letter from Land Rover to say they could not fix the problem. In the end I wrote two letters to someone high up (after writing about twenty to customer service, non of which were replied to in writing) and got a result. The really scary thing is my old defender is up for sale again Shocked

I really hope you get your problems sorted out.

Boy

Yep well its nearly 18months for us now I think and they have still not been able to fix our engine rattle and I know exactly what your say the boy is infuriating when your telling others of your woes and all you get is well mine hasn't missed a heartbeat.....would like to say i'm perfectly happy with mine blah blah. I would be really happy with mine if they just friggin fixed it. YOU KNOW REHAB IS FOR QUITTERS!!!!

On the back of the Clutch master cylinder is a switch; nothing fancy... just something that makes or breaks an electrical circuit when you press the clutch pedal.
There are two wires connected to it.
If your car "Revs on" unnecessarily when changing gear, if its a puma join the wires together using a "jump lead"
If its a Td5 just pull the connector off.

This disables "Surge Damping" which can be problematic, this will just leave you with the decision to control the engine speed when you change gear... just like the old days.
And if you prefer how it was beforehand disconnect it or reconnect it!
Anyone else know any better?

I have had no problems with either the Td5 or the Puma after I have done this when the surge damping has started playing up.

I know it shouldn't have to come to a DIY fix but I do understand process and control systems and I do understand Defenders.
