Hi
We are currently stuck in the Primarens / Karlsruhe area with our puma which broke down. all services clised for the next days and worse, nobody who can advice a good landrover service in the area. dont care if it is an official dealer or an independent if anybody can help or assist,in any way, please send us an sms on +421907777073, no internet besides 3G roaming so calling you back is cheaper than checking pm's The 110 probably has a broken valve, terrible sound and pulsating exhaust. no smoke or water consumption ,oil ok etc ni fault codes All normal and all of a sudden tak-tak-tak-tak-tak engine still starts normal but the sound is there any help is greatly apriciated. alex&martina Last edited by tatra805 on 2nd Jan 2012 11:38am. Thanks for the reactions. adac has the 110 unloaded in one of their branches but does not know what to do with it, the only landrover service they can drop it off on monday is a mercedes dealer which is listed as a service partner for landrover vehicles. doesnt give me a goid feeling. insurance is a no-go although everything is ok they cannot assist as it is a slovak contract, which means we have to file the expenses for towing etc once we are back in slovakia. That will work out ok from my experiences.
my main issue is to have the car repaired somewhere reliable we are 459km from my parents and 750km from home so towing is a financial no-go i guess and a contracted mercedes branch is not my favourite. i can go anywhere but nobody knows a landrover place here. So if anybody would know someone we would appreciate it verry verry much!! mean time we are staying at some sort of b&b. good we took the homemade smoked salmon from my parents in belgium. green |

THANK YOU ALL for your fast reactions and support in the last days.
Certainly also to Ninetytd4 and Landy Andy who sent us sms messages with useful information. We ended up at the LR dealership in Kaiserslautern, i have no idea how the towing service could not have known this and wanted to drop us at a small local mercedes dealer... sniffy. The 110 has a defected injector, parts will be here tomorrow so if all goes well we'll be on the road again in 24h. Head mechanic and staff was very helpful and friendly (so both service as technically a thumbs up) We were driven into town where they arranged a hotel for us. (SAKS in the center of town also worth a recommendation) Hopefully no further damage but all looks as if not according the head mechanic. Keeping fingers crossed. So again for your reactions and we really hope one day we can return the pleasure of helping you guys out. LR spirit And of course our best wishes for 2012 to all of you and your families! |

Just wanted to update for all those who were trying to help us out.
this is very smiley message unfortunately it is not the yellow one..... My last message was premature.... we were at the service another 4 days and the 110 is still there being repaired as we type. (after receiving the estimate i decided to go home and make up my mind what to do) After 6 months of having my childhood dream, its absolutely a disappointing and confronting situation: Took me till now to recover and make up my mind if wether to keep or sell the 110. there is a family life with priorities after all and running in such costs in short time was not planned. I'll try to stick to the facts, maybe useful info for somebody. So, the tak-tak-tak sound was not a leaking injector. After replacement we found that the sound was still there. So, tow the vehicle home or continue and open up the engine? go on so at least we know what the problem is. This revealed a broken tappet which according to the head technician was broken long before as the breaking line on the tappet part has old oil markings. This tappet travelled between the second exhaust valve tappet next to it and this resulted in a sheared tappet frame, a bent valve and the debris ending up between the camshaft eating that one away. They are a big service (38 booth workplace) and were absolutely surprised to see this on a puma engine. ...we also were... Click image to enlarge Picture above you see the half-tappet still in place, that one broke first long time ago and ended between the one above, that one broke off and ripped the frame. FYI tappets are not replaceable you can only buy the full frame with all tappets on it. They tested the bottom end and assured me that (thanks to the vertically positioned valves of this engine) the piston has no damage and the bottom end will be ok. despite the mark on the cylinder head. So thank you ford to have the valves in line with the piston and not angled which would results in broken valves and piston heads immediately. (as he showed me on a c class 320) so engine pics: After going left and right a zillion times between selling or keeping we decided to keep the 110. At least the repair bill will not be a present to a new owner but to our use. And after all the GF's A class is not allowed to tow the horsebox. Still a bit about it all. In any case once again thanks to all who responded! Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

Hi Dgardel,
not much more but head is there. 70000km no over revs. This happened coming out of a restricted speed zone going from 5th to 6th at about 90km/h. Pressed the clutch and tak-tak-tak. BUT i only had the 110 for the last 10 000km everything what was before i have no clue about. (it was a leasing with full history at LR dealer, no outstanding recalls and no special repairs or anything done to it.) I guess there is a reason why you are asking?
