My '99 TD5 Hard Top suffered the oil in the loom/ecu. Complete replacement of both sorted it but the repair bills forced me to sell it even though Land Rover met 50% of the bill. A great shame because it was a cracking Special Vehicles Landy. It was an ex BT workhorse but had done very few miles painted in a pale grey colour that looked suspiciously "RUC white" in overcast conditions! Caused a bit of a stir with the locals when I took it over to Belfast for a race meeting
Apart from that it was a decent vehicle and I'd be interested to know what subsequent owners thought of it. It had a lovely roar from the exhaust and sounded far better than my current 110 Puma. |

Dunno if mine are typical, but on my 2 Td5s I've had:
Leaky radiator A few wheel bearings Dodgy oil pressure switch Back door fallen to bits (old style) Doors not closing properly in the cold! Which leads me to conclude, given that I've done about 80k in Td5s, that they're extremely reliable! [/list] |

After 2 weeks of ownership, the only faults I have found are seized door locks, and a water leak around an alpine window. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

Rotting door bottoms,
Headlight/sidelight switch contacts melt, worth carring a spare or checking on them....no fun towing a boat 55 miles back along lanes in the dark with only sidelights Great motor though, loved my TD5 |
