There is also a basic design fault with condensing boilers! The condensate is piped out of the boiler normally through a 15 mm pipe. Oh dear they suddenly realise people walking by might get scalded. Shock horror. So the condensate must be piped to a drain down a 15 or 20mm pipe. When do you want a CH boiler to work? When it is rather cold, i.e. below freezing outside. What happens then? The condensate is water, water cooled below 0C turns into ice. The condensate pipe is then blocked and your boiler starts to 'leak' Oddly enough they only realised that over the last few cold spells. Ho humm they are energy efficient boilers ok. Yes the may leak, cause electrical problems, ruin your decorations but the EC dictates that we must have them Lets all  to the all wise, all knowing ferking useless beaurocrats in Brussels

I sussed that out a while ago  good job I had a dual battery set up or else we would have been pushing off the ferry! Took me a while to work out that it was the cool box and not the split charge set up - duh (damm no nothing newbies!)
I think my old man has a gas/12v fridge hidden in the garage so I'm going to try that out first on a few local trips and then probably end up doing what I should have done two years ago - BUY A PROPER JOB! Having spent out on a new wagon a fridge is a drop in the ocean I guess. What sort of money do I need to spend to get a decent smallish one?, nothing massive, and recommendations for suppliers. (I haven't seen the wifes full pressie list but I'm sure that 'perfume' could be misread as 'fridge'  )

The three main brands of 4 x 4 fridges are National Luna, Engel and ARB.
There are lots of different things to consider when buying a fridge apart from price. Useful volume, current draw, temperature set, battery monitoring etc. Please remember I am a trader and can always be accused of being biased. Useful volume is around the 40-50 llitres. So prices and some comments from personal experience Engel MT45 £700 This fridge is a 40 litre fridge, is well regarded and we have used one on our travels. Is let down by lack of battery monitor and the way you set the temperature. ARB 47 fridge £760 This fridge is a 47 litre fridge, we have also used this one extensively. Has a marginally larger footprint then the Engel, better temperature setting, better control layout and more user friendly in our opinion National Luna S295. £1,000 A 40 litre fridge, highly regarded by the S Africans. Have not used one personally, so could only repeat sales patter. If you go lower in size, say to a 30 litre fridge you will only save about a £100-150. Our personal favourite is the ARB 47 litre one and is the one we stock. If you come to any show we will have both the Engel and the ARB displayed so you can then make your own informed decision Brendan |

Getting back to the OP, I've gradually reached the conclusion that full roof racks are largely unneccessary. I love the look of them and have had several on different vehicles over the years (Brownchurch, Safety Devices, Patriot and OE Land Rover). Some have even had roof lights on them
 However, for a vehicle that's genuinely dual purpose, in that it's both my daily driver and used for more adventurous stuff, I'm finding roof bars to be a good compromise. They can be used to carry all of the usual off-road paraphenalier as well as more domestic stuff, but can also be easily removed and stored when not needed. Darren

You can also fit in some car parks without a roof rack. With one, no chance.
I'm not keen - I'd fit roof bars too if I had to. But TBH, if you can't fit everything IN a 110 or 130, you have too much stuff! Rooftents excepted of course... Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion. |

A mod that cost £4.99 that I wished I fitted years ago is wrapping a piece of 'astroturf' doormat around the side step/runners where the foot lands when getting in and out. Spending lots of time in muddy fields and ruts etc on farm shoots and foreshores (where it's useful to have lots of {roof}lighting after duck flights etc), the amount of mud one can scrape off boots before entering the vehicle is superb. The interior stays better/cleaner for longer. A piece about the size of a wide A4 sheet held on with 3 cable ties does the job perfectly. D300 HSE 110 |

Brendan, as far as I'm aware, ARB don't actually make a fridge, its branded ARB but is actually a Waeco (absent from your list). It's certainly made in the same premises as the Waeco fridges
