Oh dear

should I go and sit in the naughty corner?

Roof mounted lights YES
Bumper mounted lights YES
Winches (yes plural on one vehicle) YES
Rear axle locker YES
Raised air intake YES
Heater air intake cover (NOT military style) YES
2" Lift YES

Long Range tanks YES
On board water tank YES
UHF and HF radios YES
MSS storage units YES
Window grilles YES

I think my main vehicle would not meet with the approval of certain forum members

OK certain people might not like how I have prepped MY vehicle. Note it is my vehicle not yours so I will equip it as I see fit (whilst staying within the law) and will not seek other people approval

Do I care if my vehicle does not meet the approval of other people??

Normal saturday for me is take ms no worries in the 90 to one of the following, a combination of the following, or if its a really bad day for me all of the following. Booker cash and carry, Tesco, Lidl, Asda, The market, and if i need anything Mole Valley Farmers or B&Q. Not a lot of scope for serious off roading in that lot. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

The thread isn't about approval from others, just mods that "we" would or wouldn't fit.

Ah yes Ben, but with interest that would be two beers now

Must admit I do not understand why certain people are so vocal with their dislike of simple things like roof mounted lights.

There again once you have experienced the NEED for them especially when they are wired illegally for road use, you are suddenly very convinced about them.

There again I do not need anyones approval to mod our vehicles as I see fit to meet our needs (whilst staying broadly within the law).

Do you know something Ben this naughty step is quite comfortable when you have a beer in your hand!

You're excused Brendan because you use your vehicles for the purpose they were designed and built. My gripe is with those who slap "accessories" on their vehicles because they think they ought to have them, not because they've actually thought about whether they will actually need them (see my other post re roof lights for example).

My absolute worst, worst, gripe with the hi-lift jack mounted on the rear door or wheel carrier "just because", and the majority of people who do that have never even used one, nor are they likely to even know how to use one correctly and safely, and even when to use it (which is rarely if you're in the uk and not involved in events). just what is the point of carriyng round a hi lift on your back door to work and back? work being in computer software in an office park for example. Gr.

Hi Mike, I personally rate the high lift jack as one of the most over rated but under used bit of kit in the 4 x4 world. Incorrect use of what in some situations is a inherently unstable item is highly dangerous.

Carrying a high lift jack on outside of vehicle where it will rust and get covered in cack is not the most sensible idea going.

When we carry a high lift jack it is in a padded bag (bag is a lovely colour of salmon pink

) on inside of vehicle. Keeps it secure and clean.

Is there a way of telling who is excused and who isn't?

I mean, this could get really confusing. Say for example I see a fully kitted out Defender in a car park in Dorking, it's clean and the guy is in a suit. Do I assume he's in IT and has no real use for it or could I be mistaken, say it's Ray Mears, I've just not recognised him he needs some milk from Sainsbury's and is on his way back from a funeral?

It's hard not to judge, I have my own vice and that is fat people in track suits, the irony is often wasted on them
