Corrosion on the windscreen surround!
I was washing the 90 this afternoon as it has to go into Sturgess' bodyshop for some repairs as a result of 'consiquential damage tomorrow (the drivers window dropped and dented the door skin outwards) and I've found that the screen surround is corroding in the bottom right hand corner of the frame.

To me it's a screen out job to do it right and doing a job right is not something Sturgess do at all well so wish me luck!

What pees me off most is that my other Defender (a 110) is coming up on seven years old and there is no corrosion anywhere on the body! Confused "If it ain't sideways, you just ain't tryin'!

My 110 had the same problem after two years.

Took the dealer quite a long time to sort it out.

Is this the drivers or passenger side and was it on a weld seem? Would be good to know if there is a common problem. A couple of spare windscreen frames is on the top of my Defender spares list to keep her going Whistle

I had this and some bulkhead corrosion on the inside of my 06 plate 110. I found the corrossion in Oct, I get my truck back from the dealers this week Shocked having had a new bulkhead and windscreen surround fitted under warranty.

Every Defender I have had has suffered the same. Confused

common fault, ours was repaired earlier this year,Hunters use Chartwells bodyshop in Derby, they made a very good job of it. 2.4 90 XS

Anyone got any pics or can detail exactly where the corrosion areas are - it would be useful for us all, especially if ultimately new bulkheads/frames are need after warranty Shocked

Passenger side in two places, top patch was on the front of the frame about two inches from the roof (just below the level of the windscreen top) and the second are was about 4 inches below this on the front/side angle.

No welds or seams just plain rot Laughing

Thanks Bob Shocked I know when some windscreens are put in the tools they use can scrape any paint off leaving exposed bare metal (I think this was the fault with my TD5 also!) Rolling Eyes

Luckily a windscreen frame can be easily sorted but a bulkhead....that is not good, knowing which areas to keep an eye on would very useful...

Both areas of corrosion started with the paint bubbling. At the same time as I noticed the windscreen frame problem I found the same on the offside passenger door.

All sorted under warranty.

Just reminded me to get my screen out and do a proper, permanent job on the frame and seal Thumbs Up Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

When I built my 110 3 years ago, i had all the bodypanels shot blasted back to bare metal, including the screen frame.

This was then sprayed by a proper body shop (they do all the bodywork repairs to my local dealership) and this frame is now bubbling/corroding at the bottom Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad
