This is one of the best looking Defenders I have seen, If mine looks a quarter as good as this when its finished I will be happy.

Just stunning. Red looks billiant on it. And the quality of the workmanship looks top class.
Well done Cheers John For those who understand, no explanation is needed... For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible |

Looking good.
Where did you get your rocksliders? Did you coat them or is that how you recieved them? Also where did you get those shiny sill trims ? |

OK to answer a couple of questions. The stainless steel sill covers I had made up by an engineer friend of mine and simply placed some Defender decals on them.
The rocksliders I bought and after experimenting with various non slip coatings that was not up to the job I had them sandblasted and treating in Linex, which is used in the back of pick up trucks etc and is very very tough and long lasting, it is baked on and is that tough that it is used to coat military weapon discharge chambers! so will take a bullet at close range Since my last posting I have made some more subtle upgrades. I installed a marine consumer unit in the rear that is linked directly to the second battery, I fitted a red led to the input power of it which acts as a visual indication of the power state, the 2nd row LED courtesy lights are wired to activate when the doors are opened. I have custom made some Carling switch legends too, and pictured is the pilkington heated windscreen being fitted. thanks for the tip on the door threshold trims, good idea with adding the decal, got some of that 'etched glass look ' vinyl somewhere. Seen some plain ss ones elsewhere on the net so might give those a try.
Other additions all look good, busy man Nice pic on the calendar, been on that track as well this summer. DJ |

just fitted a Wolf snow cover, toyed with idea for last couple of years but couldn't commit, mainly because I could not justify the price for what seems a simple item, anyway got one in passivated zinc plate and had it powder coated and fitted it adding rubber edging trim to neaten it up and close a gap at the side!
The amount of air the blower fan produces as not been effected, as some people said it restricted air flow, but I have an Eberspacher heater and heated windscreen too so I don't depend on the standard heater system anyway, incidentally the Eberspacher is superb and highly recommended, I have a thermostat with it and I have turned it to minimum and leave it on all the time, it keeps an ambient temperature and the landy simply doesn't freeze up! it also illuminates that horrible dampness and mildew forming during winter and keeps a comfortable temperature always! I am looking for a TD5 dash binnacle (not clocks) just the housing and warning light cluster, so if anyone has one spare that they want to sell drop me a line? Haven't seen any posts from pathfinder in a while.. is he still around? Optimists say the glass is half full..
Pessimists say the glass is half empty.. Engineers say the glass is twice the size it needs to be! |
