2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Cairns Blue
2.4 TDCI PUMA - CANADA/ UNITED STATES
Hi everyone,

I remember the troubles I had when trying to source the correct and or compatible fluids for my 2.4 tdci 110. I've attached a non-exhaustive list you will need for maintenance - these fluids should be readily available in Canada and/ or the US.

Engine Oil Recommended Ford WSS M2C913-D (backwards compatible)

Motul 8100 Eco-nergy

What I've found to work well:

Amsoil Signature Series 5W30 Max Duty Diesel Oil

Manual Transmission MT82 GL4 SPEC ONLY:

Redline MT90 - 75w90

Amsoil GL4 75w90

Royal Purple MaxGear 75w90 (Says its safe for brass synchros)

Transfer Case & Differential Fluid: GL4/5 can use 75w90 or 140 depending on usage/load

Motul Gear 300 75w90

Fuel Additives - Shell in the west coast of Canada. has premium diesel with a bit higher cetane(?)

However, I use Archoil AR6500. There's also Liquimoly Diesel 2002 Super Diesel Additive, and PowerService Diesel Fuel Additive.

Still hunting for the correct coolant and power steering fluid for the 2.4 Tdci Puma if anyone knows!

A stock transfer case has brass components. Use only GL4 oils. If you fit an Ashcroft ATB centre diff, then you can use GL5.

If you are in an area of Canada that gets cold, I really recommend fully synthetic oils for the diffs and T/C. It makes a huge difference in friction losses.

Power steering fluid? Just use automatic transmission fluid rated Dexron 2 or 3.

Coolant?

Shell Rotella ELC - not easy to find. Only seems to be available from distributors and specialist transport tuck suppliers. Comes pre-mixed.

Recochem HD Diesel ELC Concentrate - available at Canadian Tire and specialty truck suppliers.
