Start stop permanently deactivated. The issue only occurs if I keep my foot on the brake. If I use auto hold and take my foot off the brake whenever stopped it doesn't happen.

Another issue is jerky in slow or constant low speeds. Even my wife noticed it while driving and she doesn't notice anything.

Agree.I get all that including Censored tranny work at low speeds.

As soon as you lift the foot off the brake it re engages with that quiet hiss and you are ready for the smooth take off.

I have had my D350 for two weeks now, but the driving enjoyment is not there at all. Not looking forward to get behind the wheel as I now have to focus 9n something I never paid attention before.

I feel that choosing the Defender was a mistake.

Fun fact: it was indeed my wife who brought this up and complained about everything mentioned here in this thread: revs going up and jerky start, unexpected rolling back in D, and a general lack of refinement from the gearbox. Then I started investigating and came here.
Well, that's MY wife! She did love the Disco4 as well as the 4.6 HSE RR.

I took mine to the dealer and submitted a formal complain. Ih has gone to LR now.

The tech says I am not the only person to complain. A loaner discovery with the same engine drove much smoother and had no problem with the kick.

Please keep us updated, I'm cosidering doing the same.

Just do that.

Express you concern and ask for it to be documented and forwarded to UK for LR assessment.

The more we talk- the quicker they will do something about it.

If someone has a second, could you summarise how to identify & replicate the issue - I suspect my 130 D350 has this issue (took delivery last month). I've noticed some strange lag after what I think is the e-brake disengaging (I can hear an electronic whirr/click after being stationary). I use auto-brake hold normally though not sure if this is somewhat masking the issue...

Any time you come to a complete stop with the brake pedal depressed, after about 3 seconds the tranny quietly shifts into neutral while still displaying the D on the dash.

If you lift your foot and quickly press the accelerator pedal (like you normally do in traffic), it takes about 1.5 seconds for the tranny to reengage the DRIVE. By that time the revs are up and the take-off is with the jolt and solid kick in the butt.
On incline, this results with the roll back while the tranny is shifting back into DRIVE.
If you take your foot of the brake and allow sufficient time for the tranny to shift - the acceleration is smooth.
Autohold feature masks this problem because after you come to a complete stop with AUTOHOLD engaged and you lift your foot off the brake pedal - the tranny shifts into DRIVE and stays there until you depress the accelerator. As a result, the take of is smooth and pleasant.

On a positive side, I have been to a dealer, and they reloaded the PCM or tranny software with the last version. Not the PRIVI software.
I think it changed the algorithm of shifting. I need more time to experiment and get a feel of new behaviour.

Much appreciated Sockeye! I'll turn off auto-hold & see how I get on.

You'll have to let us know how the update fares.

Dealer recognised the fault - tried to fix it, said it was bad (although the courtesy defender was worse).

Land Rover couldnt fix it said it was normal...i know JLR are aware of this and its not normal.

Although you can adapt behaviour to mitigate it, its dangerous. mine is a bit better since they updated everything. Mike

They certainly do recognise the issue and offered me a rather large sum of money to keep it and keep trying to repair it. I was slightly tempted …… until it rolled back nearly into another car in the supermarket car park. That was it, it wasn’t about the money, it was having a car fit for purpose and that I trusted not to roll into cars behind me! It was purchased to tow my horses and trailer so needed to be safe.

Finance company took over the rejection process and to be honest they were brilliant! Dealer was useless and tried to pull a fast one. I ordered a replacement from a different dealer, who were also brilliant and I am now 2 weeks in to owning the replacement and it is everything I could have wished for and more. Would I reject again? After the latest software, the engine autostop now restarts the motor on release of the brake pedal.

Funny fact that it is now!! mine has always done that and it is a 23.5 MY, at any slight loss of pressure on the brake pedal, the engine restarts immediately, it has always worked perfectly, without any kind of setback !! perhaps that is the key to the problem! Defender 110 SE I6 D250 23MY

Mine does indeed have the issue - will contact the dealer this week and see how I fare.

l've noticed my 2022 90 will sometimes go into neutral while slowing down at low speeds. While it doesn't have the delay or rolling back issue it does result in a bit of a "thump" in the back as the transmission re-engages when you accelerate.

When in slow moving traffic l find it's smoother if l move the transmission lever to the left and down while stationary which manually engages "2"

The vehicle then stays in second gear and does not select neutral or change into "1"

lf traffic speeds up just move the lever to the right to resume normal shifting.

l think it's a software issue probably to do with emissions.
