Flinders, that’s disappointing that you were not taken seriously.

I work very closely with a JLR dealer and I can tell you that you’ve identified a problem that most people here aren’t even able to notice.

I hope your replacement car does not have the issue. Please keep us posted if you don’t mind. When is it due to arrive and what is the exact model are you’re replacing it with?

Thanks LandyLover1107 it’s been a tough few months but honestly glad it’s gone now!

I’ve ordered an exact replacement! Although I’ve added the clear view mirror on this one! Ordered replacement 7th December for defender 90 x dynamic HSE D350 Santorini black. Order is still in the holding pool so no idea on when we will get it! Big Cry MY25 Defender 90 D350 X Dynamic HSE - REJECTED Sad

I think the issue has always been there with all the JRL products for a long time.
I remember my 3.0 v6 XF wa se a tu the same. Same box of bmw 3/5 series. No lag on bmw. Lots of lag with JLR. Same with the Ranger Rover. I am used to it I think but if you are not it’s very annoying and not acceptable.

Crazymind the thing is that all JLR cars with the ZF gearbox have been perfect - no issues. I know I sound like a broken record at this point but it's just 25MY with this issue - no other models do it at all, not even in the slightest. Drive a 24MY / 24.5MY and jump into a 25MY - instantly noticeable.

It's something JLR needs to fix ASAP as I am very sure it has resulted in more than just some buy-backs for them, or at least the dealers - such as what happened with Flinders.

Are you talking about the rolling back when "D" is selected

Lag and other JLR quirky gear changes can be simply fixed with a decent gearbox remap. WARNING.

And who is going to do that? l've seen many companies offering engine remaps but never a gearbox remap.

lt would have to be specific to the Defender and also in regards to the low range settings.

Saw this post yesterday and became instantly paranoid! My MY25 has 255 miles on it and I've spent all day stopping and starting on hills of various slopes and honestly its absolutely fine. No rolling back or forward. Maybe a slight lag in taking up drive when it is stone cold but that goes away within a couple of minutes. The gearbox in this one feels smoother and quicker on the take up than my MY2022. Maybe its my agricultural driving style! Defender D350 X-Dynamic HSE 110 MY25 Carpathian Grey

Loads do specific maps for gearboxes but Darkside Developments would be a good place to start.

That company doesn't mention Land Rover transmission variants at all on their website.

Graeme be thankful you have one of the ones that is ok. It was intermittently showing roll back and was more obvious in stop start traffic on inclines when waiting for lights to change etc.

Not all have the issue and it’s probably luck of the draw. I did joke mine was a Friday car as it had 26th July as build date! Little did I know it was true re a Friday build! Lol! Also if you have the auto brake assist function switched on it will always hold. Not something I wanted to use as a plaster to cover up the problem.

A reprogramme of every gear individually cleared the issues with the unsmooth gear changing etc. MY25 Defender 90 D350 X Dynamic HSE - REJECTED Sad

Mine was built towards the end of November, just before the change to MY25.5. Maybe they realised there was an issue and sorted it? Being JLR I doubt it though. Defender D350 X-Dynamic HSE 110 MY25 Carpathian Grey

Hi everyone.

I have driven multiple of the new Defenders and specifically the diesels.

As of very recent (with the latest model D350 25MY) I have noticed a very annoying issue when setting off from a stand-still.
That is, with the vehicle in Drive "D" and the brake applied, letting go of the brake pedal and pushing the accelerator causes the revs to climb and after a second the gearbox actually kicks in. This results in a very jerky pull-away. Almost as though every time the car comes to a stand still, the gearbox / torque converter will disengage and takes too long to re-engage upon wanting to drive off.

Has anybody else with the most recent Defenders experience something similar? They never used to do this. The dealer does not seem to know of anything to solve this.

Having been driving a 90 D350 for a whole five days now, I recognise what you describe, but it feels like the brakes being released that appears to be causing the effect. HTH

I did sometimes wonder if it was the brakes as I also had a noisy EPB which seemed to take ages to release or come on with the length of noise it made. The reprogramming of the gearbox that’s the technician completed did correct the issue but it didn’t solve the rolling back. To be honest my D350 had so many faults from little things to major I am just glad it’s gone! Feel sorry for the next person that buys it Sad MY25 Defender 90 D350 X Dynamic HSE - REJECTED Sad
