I would have thought that (with any other manufacturer) this fault would warrant a recall. I wonder how many unreported minor collisions it has caused.

Just to update after the rejection of my D350 that was rolling back in drive. I received my replacement that I ordered back in December 2024 on Friday and I am pleased to report that this one does not roll back and feels so much smoother to drive!

I am so happy and glad I rejected, despite the stress of it all, because the difference in the drive between the 2 cars is like night and day! I now understand why everyone was saying how amazing these defenders drive! Bow down MY25.5 Defender 90 D350 X Dynamic HSE - Maximus

That's great news, glad you managed to get the vehicle replaced. lt sounds like the new ones don't have the issue any more then.

l hope LR can eventually rectify the problem on existing vehicles.

Mine is in for it right now

Ironically the slightly older 74 plate d250 courtesy car is even worse than mine! Mike

Yes it is surprisingly quiet in this thread. Seems like this issue applies only to a small number of vehicles?
The fact that Flinders replacement vehicle that was built to order does not have it would also point into this direction. Then again, I recently spoke to somebody with a Disco5 D350 and he described the exact same behavior.

Jenzz, when I was trying to find a solution for my rejected defender I found the velar’s suffered it also as described on their forums but no one ever updated with outcomes or solutions. I’ve since seen similar on RRS forum but the numbers are few.

I’ve had my replacement D350 12 days now and it’s everything I could have wished for and should have been with the original ordered one! They must know what the problem is but sounds like financially not viable to repair.

I feel for the poor person currently driving around in my rejected D350 as it also drove like a dog through its gears and braking system as well as the rolling back! The dash ambient lighting also wasn’t working! It sold from the dealers to Kaim Park Garage and they pimped it up with full urban kit and sold it for £89k! Shocked I bought it for £71k with the discounts! MY25.5 Defender 90 D350 X Dynamic HSE - Maximus

I took mine to the dealer and submitted a formal complain. Ih has gone to LR now.

The tech says I am not the only person to complain. A loaner discovery with the same engine drove much smoother and had no problem with the kick.

The most annoying part is: there seems to be a big variation between the vehicles as they come off the factory. Some do not do it at all, some partially, and some very noticeable.
This troubles my german soul big time. If they would all behave the same, fine. But with that variance, it is unlikely it's a pure software issue.

Another question to everybody with this issue present: which start/stop settings do you use?
usually activated?
usually deactivated?
permanently deactivated?

Start stop permanently deactivated. The issue only occurs if I keep my foot on the brake. If I use auto hold and take my foot off the brake whenever stopped it doesn't happen.

Another issue is jerky in slow or constant low speeds. Even my wife noticed it while driving and she doesn't notice anything.

It is purely the luck of the draw for what you’re going to get! I couldn’t have had 2 different to drive cars if I tried! The replacement one is totally different to drive, even the seat feels comfier!

I was fearful that the replacement was going to be the same but thankfully it wasn’t! My husband did say that if it rolled back like the other one we wouldn’t be rejecting a second time! I’d just have to use the Auto Hold setting! Rolling with laughter

I drive with the auto stop start activated. I don’t actually mind it. MY25.5 Defender 90 D350 X Dynamic HSE - Maximus

Hill hold/auto hold is a red herring. As soon as you touch the accelerator this is deactivated.

The issue is that the vehicle takes itself out of gear (even in Drive), so takes a second to go back into gear. During this time, hill hold is off and the vehicle is effectively in neutral.

I have a contact at JLR head office and they have raised this to the appropriate team.

My thoughts are that the fix it will be released as a remote software update at some point.

@edward, any news from JLR eventually?
