Engine Temperature dial broken?
Good evening all

In need of a little advice/direction.

The engine Temperature dial is stuck in this position. The engine hasn't overheated previously to put it in this position and not sure whether it is just an electrical gremlin.

I've disconnected the battery to see if it would reset and checked the connections there. No joy.

All other dials work perfectly and also the filled up the diesel to check whether that was working. So it is just the temp gauge.

I'm pretty sure that the gauge can't be swapped out and it is a console out job and to a specialist to fix? If so any recommendations? Seen a few advertised ic£150 to fix but would welcome any steer from those who have had to have similar work done.

Thanks all

Andy

Might be a failed CHT Sensor, they aren’t expensive but worth changing and I think it might be the likely cause of the issue.
There is no guarantee it is, but that’s my thoughts. TheThunderRolls🇬🇧🇺🇸

Another thing worth checking is the cluster electrical connector to the rear is secure as well, but I think CHT is more likely, but no guarantee it is. TheThunderRolls🇬🇧🇺🇸

Mine did that a little while ago - but it also wouldn't start either. Turned out to be a relay under drivers seat. Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

Update
Thank you for all the replies.

Yes everything worked as normal bar the hand brake light as well.

Well a nice surprise is that it sorted itself out after a couple of days. The dial went back to the bottom to its normal position. It now works as expected, coming up to temp as normal. Doesn't exceed the halfway point. Hand brake light still not working though!

Got to love Defenders.
