United Kingdom 2009 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 CSW Stornoway Grey
Stornaway Grey Puma
Back in February 22 I was on holiday in the Peak District. I stumbled across Hallam Brothers in hayfield who had this Stornaway grey puma in stock. I’d fancied a defender for a while, but knew very little about them. I took it for a test drive and fell in love instantly!

I realise now how I’d fallen in love with a previously upgraded beauty, it took me a while to realise it wasn’t stock. (I know.. I should have done more research 😂)

So from the day I got it, it had:
    LED headlights (unsure of manufacturer)
    Presumed KBX grille
Black Chequerplace Sill and Wing protectors
    Safari Snorkel
    Momo Steering Wheel

After around 6 months of ownership I realised there were somethings I needed/wanted to add. An this is where I realised there’s no enough money in the world to do what I want to do to this new toy 😂

I dug deep and prioritised my purchases:

As we all know, the future list is endless.. I would like a rear wheel carrier and rear step. Likely the Ore4x4 ones and a new bumper with LEDs. The side steps bother me too, as the paint constantly flakes off!

Id also like to continue the ICE upgrades at some point.

Beauty! what single din CarPlay did you find? one of the fold out ones? any problem getting the plastic seat mechanism covers back on when you had the carpet and 6mm deadening in (I'm struggling! ... but have dynamat under the 6mm foam too which may just be too much)?

Hi, I’ve updated the post with a link to the stereo. I got it on Amazon. It’s not an expensive unit, so has some niggles. But overall, once you have car play running it’s flawless.

I’m not sure I know what you mean on the mechanism covers. I didn’t have any issues fitting the seats back in. I don’t have the depth, like you say, so perhaps that’s why.. 2009 Stornaway Grey Puma Build Thread

Yeah I was out driving it tonight, and the porridge stirrer had me thinking… perhaps it’s time for a slickshift 😂 2009 Stornaway Grey Puma Build Thread

Looks great, similar to mine. Wink

If you haven’t already have you considered underseal like Dinitrol?
Especially internally such as inside the side steps tubing, internal chassis rails etc etc.

These things often rust from the inside out, I did all of mine but the steps on mine I didn’t.
I found that, by the time corrosion appeared outside the internals were bad, mind you powder coating is often poor quality and internals are bare steel.
So corrosion starts from the inside, and steps are exposed to a lot of salt and water. TheThunder Rolls🇬🇧🇺🇸

I have! I went with lanoguard the year I bought it. An top ups on it each year since. I can’t remember why I went lanoguard over the others. I think there was a difference of opinions on which was “best” on angry pumas. 😂 2009 Stornaway Grey Puma Build Thread

That’s good, I used Dinitrol but any brand is well worthwhile as it is important.

It’s kept mine really good underneath, most underseal treatments do, but without problems to develop.
Most other people are happy with their underseal treatments as well.

There are a few around now, more advanced than Waxoil. Thumbs Up TheThunder Rolls🇬🇧🇺🇸

Indeed, it’s one of those full scale PPE jobs, a chimney sweep would be a cleaner job really. Rolling with laughter TheThunder Rolls🇬🇧🇺🇸

I found back when I did mine I had a splash right on the eye, where if it wasn’t for safety glasses that would have been a direct hit so it just goes to show that it’s well worth it.

Which HU do you have right now? Or have you not quite got to that stage yet. Thumbs Up TheThunder Rolls🇬🇧🇺🇸

Haha. Yea it gets everywhere! Least you know your tear ducts won’t go rusty!

I’ve updated the list with a link to the Hu. It’s likely a temporary measure, I was missing CarPlay but not sure I’m wanting to do a double din conversion. It’s cheap… an cheerful. 2009 Stornaway Grey Puma Build Thread
