Speaker upgrade, worth it?
Hello!

I’m considering replacing the stock speakers in my 2009 TDCi. I know very little about “ice”, I have a cheap temporary single din apple car play stereo. But no amp or sub etc.

Is it worth putting something like the Focal AC 100’s in before an amp and sub? Would it make a noticeable difference? I hear the 4” slots in without issue, with a 5” needing an adapter. Is that correct?

Cheers
Mike

Yes, it’s worth it, but the upgrade is limited unless you do a full install.
The factory speakers are very poor though, so even an upgrade on those is beneficial.

But as you are aware, then the HU is the limiting factor without Amped power.

It mainly depends on what sort of expectations you have and what you’d like to spend.
You can get a decent upgrade for some money, but to upgrade a lot then it can get costly. TheThunder Rolls🇬🇧🇺🇸

Thanks, figured that would be the case. I’m in the process of finishing off sound deadening and re-carpeting. Saw the speakers at £80 a pair and figured I’d stick them in for now. Then once everything else is done potentially look at a double din and some more hardware. 😎

I would second that with the Focal speakers

Haha. Brilliant 😀😀

I’ve got a set coming tomorrow. Just the 100 ACs for the front for now. 👍🏻

That’s what I was hoping. They arrive today Smile

Once I finish the sound deadening in the rear I’ll get ones for the back too.

Thanks everyone

Sound deadening is an improvement in itself, as it reduces ambient noise and resonation.
So that increases perceived dB output from your speakers anyway, which of course is an improvement in SQ as well.
Carpeting, in your case or light foam on top helps as well.
Very Happy

Those specs on those speakers are pretty good for what you can get, pretty much as much as you can get safely from HU power only.
Just beware the HU itself is free to vent heat. Wink TheThunder Rolls🇬🇧🇺🇸

Thanks, yeah that was project number 5

It went…

1. Security
2. More security
3. Even more security
4. Weep at the bank balance
5. Killmat and closed cell foam
6. Security
7. Speakers 😂

I try not to write it down, as every time I do it’s out of date within minutes. There’s always something to keep you out of trouble 😂 2009 Stornaway Grey Puma Build Thread
