Optima red-tops..... charging?
I've got a couple of new-ish red tops in the garage that I kept off of my 110. Just measured them and they're both on 10.6v (they've been sat for about 2 years mind)

I want to charge them up, I have a couple of bench power supplies (one 12v, the other regulated at 13.8v)

Anyone know if it's OK to just connect that up for a few hours to top them up?

Optima's site says for a float charge "Float Charge:

13.2 to 13.8 volts, one amp maximum current, time indefinite (at lower voltage)."

So I'm guessing it would be OK?

You could go up to the 13.8v for say 6 hours a throw, over a period of time repeatedly.
That would simply mirror in use charging anyway.

Lower than that won’t revitalise them anyway, basically I’m suggesting you mirror their use whilst fitted with alternator charging current, but on the bench.

The current on the bench charger is lower anyway, so it’ll be safe enough.

That’s what I’d try anyway, but when they do get fitted take a trusted fully charged battery just in case for a while. TheThunder Rolls🇬🇧🇺🇸
